Protecting Neighborhoods, One Property at a Time

New Orleans is home to some of the oldest and most historic properties in the country. With that cultural history, there is a responsibility for homes, businesses, and neighborhoods to be maintained.

To help preserve the health and safety of our city, it’s important to stay informed about local property codes and ordinances. Whether you're a homeowner, business owner, or property manager, staying code compliant helps prevent blight and keeps our communities thriving.

The Department of Code Enforcement is responsible for:

  • Enforcing building and property maintenance codes per the city code

  • Removing graffiti across the city

  • Clearing overgrown lots that pose a safety risk for right-of-ways

No matter the historical significance of a property, maintaining code compliance helps owners avoid costly violations and tax liens. Explore the resources below to learn how proactivity can be a part of making New Orleans blight-free and code compliant.
