Are You Looking For?

A practical guide for preventing or managing diabetes, using mindful eating and GLP-1 medications without getting pulled into unsustainable habits caused by dieting.

About This Newsletter

I’m Megrette Fletcher, MEd, RDN, CDCES, a registered dietitian with over 30 years of experience helping people prevent or manage diabetes using a weight-inclusive approach.

Why Weight-Inclusive Matters More Than Ever with GLP-1s

GLP-1 medications are being prescribed for many conditions: diabetes, prediabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and liver disease. Yet social media and diet culture obsessively focus on rapid weight loss rather than sustainable health.

The nuance of nutrition is getting lost in these weight-loss-only approaches.

Diet culture tells you to eat as little as possible while taking these medications. A weight-inclusive approach asks:

  • How do you eat adequately?

  • How do you support your body through this change?

  • How do you avoid the restrict-regain cycle that’s hurt you before?

This newsletter is for you if…

  • You’re taking or considering GLP-1 medications and want guidance that goes beyond “eat less and lose weight.”

  • You want to prevent or manage diabetes through a focus on sustainable health behaviors, not on weight control.

  • You’re tired of conflicting messages about what you “should” do and want clarity based on your body’s actual needs.

  • You’re curious about mindful eating and somatic nutrition: learning to think your thoughts and feel your feelings, which sounds simple until you realize diet culture has taught most of us to do the opposite.

What You’ll Find Here

I write about the real questions that come up in my practice:

  • How do you build trust with your body?

  • How do you nourish yourself?

  • What actually helps with nausea? Low appetite? Food fatigue?

  • How do you preserve muscle?

  • What happens when you stop taking a GLP-1 medication?

I also share what I’m learning and exploring: mindfulness practices, somatic nutrition, weight-inclusive resources, training, books, and podcasts that challenge diet culture.

My Approach

My approach is weight-inclusive, meaning I don’t assume weight loss is required to improve health. I help people build sustainable behaviors that support blood sugar management, reduce food preoccupation, and create peace with eating.

This matters especially with GLP-1 medications because the gap between what people expect (rapid, sustained weight loss) and what actually happens (complex physical and emotional changes, potential weight regain) creates confusion and suffering.

Diet culture and yo-yo dieting have taught most of us to think about our feelings and feel our thoughts. Let’s be honest: when you say it that way, it makes sense that confusion about what to eat is so challenging. This newsletter helps you untangle that confusion.

If You Want More

I’ve written a comprehensive guide for people taking or considering GLP-1 medications: The No-Diet GLP-1 Plan. It covers everything from how these medications work to life after stopping them, with a focus on sustainable health behaviors that work whether you continue medication, stop, or never start. Learn more here.

I also see clients virtually through Nourish in 28 states. Book a session if you’d like personalized support.
