Support: Getting Started

From Liquipedia Hub Wiki

Getting started and learning something new can be an overwhelming process. This page aims to assist you and hopefully make your onboarding to Liquipedia wikis an easier process.

Creating an account

[edit]
Register your account via TL.net

Liquipedia's account system is shared with our parent site, TL.net (Team Liquid). This means you only need one account for both!

To create your account:

  • Go to the TL.net registration page: https://tl.net/mytlnet/register
  • Fill in the required fields.
    • Alternatively, you can use social media accounts to register (Facebook, Reddit, Twitch, Steam, Battle.net).
  • Once registered on TL.net, make sure you also log in on Liquipedia using the same account details. Logins are separate for each site even though the account is shared.

Important Notes

[edit]

As you're starting contributing to Liquipedia, your edits will need to first go through a revision, and get approved by another contributor or admin. This is a normal process that everyone goes through, and the goal is that you use this initial phase to learn and perfect your editing skills. But don't worry if you make mistakes, you can always reach out for help in our Discord server, try fixing the mistake yourself, or ask for someone else to fix it for you. No stress!

After some days contributing to our wikis your account is granted editing permissions, and your edits will get automatically approved!

Remember that contributing to Liquipedia should be a fun process. Contribute when you can or want, enjoy the content, and have fun!

Editing

[edit]

The "Edit" button

[edit]

In the top bar of most pages you can find an "Edit" button. When clicking it you'll be redirected to page with a text box where you can type your content, preview it, and save when you're ready to do so. For more details, please refer to our editing guide.

Liquipedia uses by default only the source code editor from MediaWiki. In case you're familiar with other wikis, you might know a visual editor also exists, however Liquipedia has disabled as it doesn't fit our type of content properly.

Creating

[edit]

First things first

[edit]
Search thoroughly before creating a page!

Before creating a page on Liquipedia, be it a tournament, player, team, or any other kind of page, the very first step to do is to check that it does not already exist. To achieve that, you can use the Search function to check that the page is not already there on the wiki. Even if you don’t find it immediately, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the page doesn’t exist, as it may have a different name than what you were looking for. Try with acronyms, synonyms, with full names, etc. Search thoroughly.

There is no need to do the work twice, plus obviously every entry on Liquipedia must be unique, it will often, if not always, be referenced by other pages. It also should be updated only in one place.

Notability Guidelines

[edit]

Not everything nor everyone can have its own page on Liquipedia. The Notability Guidelines define what may or may not have an article on Liquipedia. Before creating an entry, you should make sure what you want to create actually satisfies the notability criteria. These are often different depending on the wiki you are on, so make sure your new entry matches the corresponding wiki guidelines. When the notability criteria are not met, the page you created will not be deleted, however it will be moved to your userspace, and visitors to the page will see that the page is not a page curated by Liquipedia.

The guidelines can be found in the "Contribute" dropdown menu of every wiki. Remember that different wikis have different guidelines, so make sure to get informed.

What Next?

[edit]

Ready to jump in? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Browse Recent Changes to see what other editors are working on and how they format edits.
  • Look for pages needing updates or check Want to help where some of the pages might be marked for help.
  • Start small! Correct typos, add missing match results, or update player transfers on pages you're familiar with. Every contribution helps!
