But I'm finally starting my health sabbatical away from both Tusky and GoToSocial.

The cat is out of the bag, and we've officially talked about it. This year, health allow it, I'll be working on Anti-harassment and anti-absue related research for GoToSocial, the goal of this is to inform our development!
We mentioned it briefly in our recent newsletter.
https://opencollective.com/gotosocial/updates/gotosocial-newsletter-jan-apr-2023
As mentioned there, I'm hoping to organize a workgroup, so that anyone who's interested in this, and able to contribute time, can drop by to help. If you want to help out or have resources that might be interesting please don't hesistate to contact me here.
First step is to review existing work on the subject, to see if we need to adjust any of our other reserach questions.

My adhd brain often stresses out about "what if I miss something when I go to sleep over night". I popped melatonin last night and was probably in bed for 10+hrs, came back and checked matrix and it had been quiet all night. That's pretty calming to my anxieties.
And if stuff had happened, I know that I don't have to be on it immediately, and I need to remind myself of that more often.
Working more on #Tusky than I have in a long while. Not only because of the emergency mode last week, but because I want to and am enjoying it again. And anyone who knows me I time track a lot of work, even if it's not paid work, so it's going to be inte to see how much I end up working this month.
I'm still resting, don't worry! Me and mine first. But right now mine I also the team. π
Okay, I'm going to get ready for bed, I'm still catching up on a lot of sleep!
I won't be keeping watch, but I truly hope that the rest of our community doesn't let Nik Clayton join any other of the fediverse open source community.
I hope someone does a writeup about it. I wish I had energy, but I also feel like he's wasted a lot of my time already.
And now I finally feel like I can breathe and work again? π€
some serious but incomplete thoughts about Code of Conducts, no nitpicking please
I have some serious thoughts about Code of Conducts, but right now these thoughts are incomplete so please don't nitpick on word choices, and please don't take it as a complete solution to anything for anyone.
Having a CoC document means Nothing IF:
- The people enforcing it does not know how to moderate based on it, it needs to be accompanied with a document about how different issues can be handled
- any time people can be "technically following the rules" and kick up a stink about it pointing to paragraphs etc and how they didn't break any rules blabla.
And can be lacking if you don't encourage people to report what I call yellow flags, feelings of unease, they often quickly add up to a red flag. (as I recently learned with Tusky)
You can have a good community without a code of conduct, there's other ways to pass on the culture of how you want people in your group to behave. As far as I'm aware/can remember Tusky doesn't actually have an official code of conduct.
But we've actively been doing work against nazis, we've actively brought in disabled people (myself included) to help us work on stuff, offered to pay marginalized people regularly for their contributions (most decline).
We don't allow bigotry and sexism in our chat rooms, and do both call ins and call outs. But mostly we've not needed to. It's very very rare.
I assume we're just incredibly lucky, with how we've been working and building our community. I felt safe with conny and charlag long before I joined to work with them. We talked a lot about bugs and development, but also probably silly things.
Since I joined, any time I've felt that I should leave and not be paid because I'm too disabled to do enough work to deserve it, I've been reassured that the work I'm able to do is a treasure.
And over these 5 years there's been both some very public and semi-private conversations about that.
I'm not saying this will work forever, but I fear if it's codified in a "normal" type of code of conduct it might get abused in other ways. By technically following the rules, faux politeness etc.
One of the things which made it incredibly hard to leave Tusky as I was trying to dial back my involvement, was that I didn't feel like I was able to pass on the culture we'd cultivated for so long to the new members , and I was too overwhelmed to actually be able to finish the culture document, I think others will be able to pick it up now, if they want to.
Could that kind of document serve instead of a code of conduct? Or in combination with it?
The goal for it is to describe why we do a lot of things we do, and also why you shouldn't do certain things and explains it. I don't want to reveal anything at this time. Internal documents and all.
I have also realized that that block has now been lifted, and I'm not worried because all the remaining members of the team fit that culture. I could leave any day. But now I also finally feel like I can stay.
Sorry I needed to redraft for an edit, and I wanted a cw for collapse! And now it won't post.
Who else have goblin.technology accounts?
Wanna come hangout? π€
It's incredibly telling from the #Tusky incident, that this person must've spent most of the weekend focusing on grabbing as much data as possible (logs and internal documentation which he's since started leaking) to reveal some ugly truth [my words] about Tusky and me, instead of deploying some kind of conflict resolution.
While the admin team were taking in a mediator to resolve this conflict, since they felt that there was a clear difference in communication style.
Life posting
Time to prepare for carer arriving.
I've made note. Says talking needs to be minimum today.
Might not vacuum, well see.

How are you all holding up?
My @mecfs is really kicking my ass atm. But I'm in very good hands.
I'm going to draft something here. But not right now
I can't across this Game in development, with inspiration from Terraria and Stardew Valley
And it has Goblins!

The Tusky team is bigger than ever, but two more known faces are stepping back.
Hi everyone, maloki here. Conny announced his resignation to our matrix channel last night, and this has some people worried. We've been working on this hand over for months, as both him and I are stepping back.
We've now made an official update on our Open Collective , where you can also support the team going forward!

Thank you for all your thoughts and support.
Hello! If you're coming new to the fediverse, this is my more public facing account!
But I also talk about different things here than my private accounts.
Here I do try to talk about things related to the #Fediverse and #ActivityPub, and working on #Tusky and #GoToSocial (even though I'm taking a critical health related break from both).
Take your time to settle in and people watch. And follow people that make you go "Omg I need more of you in my time line!!"
#ReIntroduction
If YouTube insists on keeping ads on everything, I know the do. Then the combined ads for the given video shouldn't be allowed to be more than 10% in length of the actual video...
Like getting a 1h ad for a 10min video is weird, you know? π€
Good stuff happening.
Recent update to #Tusky caused some changes to how filters were displayed in your timeline.
It's related to a Mastodon API change.
We should've warned you about this in advance.
The best way do deal with it is to edit your filters to completely hide things you want hidden.

Trans devs: we transed our code, so people know who built this city.
Random fossbro: maybe not publish trans rights support, if you want to get funding.
Trans devs and additional people: we just want to live and make code!
Random fossbro: Omg, trans extremists!
(this is a summary of the past few days events)
It's so freaking exciting to see people upgrade to Spicy Sloth!
