Which Math Class Should I Take?

It's tempting to relax after you finish your last required math class in high school, but taking just one college level math course can fulfill university requirements before you even get to campus! Here are course options that complete the Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement at all Utah public colleges and universities.

STAT 1040 - Introduction to Statistics OR
STAT 1080 - Foundations of Data Science
STAT 1040 - Introduction to Statistics: Covers descriptive and statistical methods used to understand data.

STAT 1080 - Foundations of Data Science: Covers the use of computer programming to explore data, craft visuals, and make predictions.

Take either of these if you want to major in:

  • English/Languages
  • History
  • Humanities
  • Nursing
  • Performing Arts
  • Psychology
  • Social Sciences

MATH 1050 - College Algebra
Covers exploration of algebra topics including functions and equations.

Take this if you want to major in:
  • Agricultural Science
  • Aviation Technology
  • Business
  • Ecology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.)

Where Can I Get Math Help?

Free online or in person help is available for USU Concurrent Enrollment students in MATH 1050, MATH 1060, and STAT 1040 through the Aggie Math Learning Center. For details see your Concurrent Enrollment instructor or your school counselor.

ALEKS Math Placement Testing

The ALEKS Placement Test can be used to assess a student's current math skills and provides tailored study materials. Visit USU Math Prep for more information.

No ALEKS placement tests may be taken after the Friday before the start of each term/trimester.
