The Long Bar is about spirits and cocktails and bars and the history and stories behind them. It’s written by Wayne Curtis, author of And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails, and a current or former columnist with Imbibe, Garden & Gun, The Atlantic, and The Daily Beast.
In the past two decades cocktails and lounges have become regarded with a seriouness that rivals interest in artificial intelligence. And that’s great! But I’d like us to return to a time when cocktails were the medium, not the message. When a good story over a drink won out over a detailed discussion about tinctures or whether vodka should have flavor. Anyway, if we're going to talk about ingredients and cocktail histories, can we at least make it factual and fun?
The Long Bar comes out on Tuesdays. Subscribe and join the conversation.
