This discourse might seem old and repetitive to many; it might feel too familiar to some. Yet, I feel the need to speak because even today many youngsters, teenagers, educationalists, and researchers continue to encourage and stand with the New Education Policy (NEP). For many, it does not even appear to be political propaganda. They […]
What a remarkable discovery for Tamil cinema and independent Tamil music. Following Arivu from his debut in Kaala’s “Urimayai Meetpom” and even before that as an independent artist with his famed “Anti Indian” and “Jai Bhim Anthem.”
From the beginning, I’ve seen him grow and reach new heights, and I hope he continues to do so. Arivu, in addition to being a musician, possesses a political awareness of being a collective, which is lacking in most musicians.
Coming from a working-class family, he has a lot of stories to tell the world. Arivu’s albums, like ‘Therukural’ and ‘Valliamma Perandi vol. 01,” have established him as a voice for change. From his recent interview with Baradwaj Rangan, we can see how clear his opinions are on the issues he discusses and how he wants them to reflect in his art.
From Tamil folk songs to Kendrick Lamar, he admires anyone who sings about their people and their rights. This assists him in the process of crafting lyrics for his songs. It’s incredible to even watch him explain the process!
Arivu understands the value of education, particularly scientific education. Nowadays, in the name of education, all unnecessary rubbish is thrown at us without our knowledge. We must be conscious of the function of science in education just as much as we impose education on others. When asked about the ‘Origins’ track in the recent album, he talks about how he modified Tamil to sound like ancestors chants and in the end of the track, it clearly articulates to form the line “”தெய்வத்தான் ஆகா தெனினும் முயற்சிதன் மெய்வருத்தக் கூலி தரும்”. The line translates as “Even though God be against, Effort is bound to pay the wages of labour”.
Kosalai is an inspiring tale of a working class woman who succeeds despite the enormous struggles she faces physically and mentally throughout her life.
Like Pettai, This novel too takes place in Chintadripet and doesn’t fail to grab the details of the surroundings.
I love how Ambedkar got involved in the story and how he gives hope to the broken Kosalai exactly when she needed it the most. It was beautifully written and left me with goosebumps. It was so close to me because the very same text of Babasaheb which inspires her to live is the very same text that lifted me up when I was down once and still I think about the struggles he faced during his life and move forward with my petty problems like it’s nothing compared to them
The book’s name is “Waiting for Visa by B.R. Ambedkar
The character arc of Kosalai is so beautiful that I can’t stop thinking about Naruto. Like Naruto, Kosalai too longs for the love of people even if the people around her isolates her and give her hard times. Also like Naruto, she too gets the love she wanted in the end, when she decided to live and fight for the people.
In spite of having so many good things to take from the novel, there are few criticisms for me in this novel. I don’t know how long people from Neelam are going to take this Ambedkarite vs Communists narrative forward, though Tamil Prabha claims that it’s not his intention to do so, the text obviously keeps them as polar opposites. Claiming that communists don’t have any understanding about caste issues is not going to take us anywhere as comrades. During this kind of fascist regime, I don’t want this kind of narrative to rule over us and split us. The Solidarity between the comrades of Periyar, Ambedkar and Marx is all we need right now and not the opposite. Hope this narrative comes to an end soon.
Despite these criticisms, I loved the novel and it’s going to be very close to my heart too. It inspired me in lots of ways and gave me more reasons to educate people. Thank you Tamil Prabha for that ❤️!
// “Though my condition was pitiable I did not like to be pitied.” // – A quote from Waiting for Visa
A thrilling Fantasy-adventure which is rooted in the lands of Orïsha, which is a fictional country resembling Nigeria.
One it’s always a trip to read adventure novels, we get to see new people and their lifestyle coming f2f with one another. In that aspect this is a highly political novel because the author tried to bring out all the oppression faced by the African people in the history and even contemporary struggles of African-Americans like the police brutality happening now and heavily criticized white supremacy.
As an adult fiction it does moves with the same cringe Netflixian style of narration yet it gets hold of us with the Yaroba culture, myths and some amazing characters that I love so much as they progressed.
Tomi Adeyemi’s intension the write the novel was why I stared reading the novel. She wrote this so that the black children will voice out and be courageous. She wrote this so that the terrors of police brutality could reach the deafs.
Quoting from the book,
// THEY TRIED TO BURY US, NOW WE RISE //
It’s an easy read with rich language and style, it absorbs you into the world set by the author. You will feel the heat and cold when she describes it with her Shakespearean English. Such a powerful choice of words!
It’s a wonderful book, If you’re a big fan of fantasy genre who likes Harry potter kinda things.
For me the politics was solid, In a monarchy setup where the slaved tribes rebel against the monarchy with help of their gods and magic ( Though the magic and gods sounds so fantasy, we can still take them as a metaphor for the rebellious spirit, tbh it helped me).
The novel insisted heavily on how the history of oppression and brutality won’t let people in peace even after so many years

One of the finest novels I’ve read, with so many relatable characters that we see in our daily lives.
I got to know Tamilprabha via sarpatta parambarai, I was so excited back when Ranjith mentioned in an interview that he is writing Sarpatta alongside another writer. Because we all know how strong Ranjith is as a writer so the news itself was exciting for me! And we all know how the movie turned out to be! One of the best written films of all time!
This fueled my admiration on Tamilprabha and that’s when I got to know he wrote a novel already and the characters like ‘Daddy’ from sarpatta were taken from the novel. This made me excited once again to read the novel. But the novel was so costly I couldn’t afford it at that time. Fortunately with the help of my good friends I got the novel in the last book fair. Since then I wanted to finish the novel for a long time without any interruption.I got that time during this semester holidays.
// Pettai as a novel is a terrific form of art work, full of life. A contemporary piece we all need to read. Every character is unique and memorable just like sarpatta. The way praba narrates the story is one of a kind. Never have I ever laughed my heart out while reading a novel. This one made me do it.
Also the lead and his mother were almost replicas of me and my mother in so many aspects, so the novel consumed me completely. I’ve never been to Chintadripet in person but now I feel like I lived there my whole life. That’s how beautiful his writing was to be honest!
Pettai has every potential to become a tv show, maybe in future we can hope.//
As the football World Cup fever came to an end, happy to see people celebrate the beautiful game for its beauty.
This is my second worldcup as a football fan, yes I started watching or following football 5 years back. It was all cricket for me back then, Sachin and Dhoni were everything for us in our street. We never watched a single game during my childhood days, though we used to play football in our streets.
It’s after the arrival of social media, I get to know the beautiful game and the stories of the legends. One such legend was pele, being a film buff I watched the movie ‘Pele’ music scored by our Isaipuyal. Beautiful movie do watch if you loved the game. (Strictly avoid commenting Bigil, Tholachupuduvan).
It was Ramos who had my attention initially, his aggressive spirit in the football was so good to watch back then. So started supporting Real madrid and the only other name I know back then was Ronaldo. He too was in the same team. My first UCL match was RM vs PSG, where Ronaldo absolutely stunned me. I became ardent fan of him since then. Watching his old matches and compilation of his all spl moments. Same goes for Ramos too. That’s why I started supporting Spain too in the last world cup.
What I am trying to say is that a single game has the potential to hook you up to this beautiful game.
A game that was created by the working class of England, gave hopes to the working class people all around of the world.
Let’s celebrate this beautiful game that we created with all the love we got! Happy to see people embracing the sport and getting out of the shadows of cricket.
In the heart of darkness, The flame is Hidden and locked. Guarded by giants with pleasing words. Yet the flame isn’t worn off it still burns.
Someday, the empire will burn down. The guards who shielded it, will take the flame forward. The empire will burn. The fire will rise to the skies, Everyone will know, They’ll join the fire too, the empire will burn.
In deep silence , In the heart of darkness, they’ll hear the roar of the rushing fire, haunting them. They’ll fear, run and cry before the flame. The flame will never forgive! The darkness will die and the flame will rise, the flame will rise, the flame will rise!
My memories kindled back to my olden golden days, when I heard ‘Govindha Sapadu(food)’ today.
I’ll tell you why, it’s a funny little memory of mine which I wanted to share with you all.
So I was studying 8 or 9 th standard, IDK really but every year around this time September to October on Saturdays, the Sourashtrians in Madurai have this really good ritual. The ritual is all about offering food to the needy around them. So they’ll prepare food for everyone and invite everyone in their street atleast to have food. Sometimes they’ll even borrow rice from our homes and make food from them.
So what does it has do with me you may all think! The important thing is they’ll offer some money too for who comes to eat. So we get to have food as well as some money.
Our street is rich of Sourashtrians and they’ll invite the childrens all over the street to have food.
Irrespective of any religion or caste we’ll go to the house and have food.
But it was not just food for us right, like I told you before we get some money too. It may vary from one rupee to 10 rupees according to how wealthy the person is.
So we people of the street assemble before afternoon and start planning. There always was a plan in those days.
We’ll enter a house and have food but won’t fill the belly because we may have to go for more houses to eat. So we’ll eat less as much as possible and abscond the house once we had the money in our hand.
You may all think what we’re going to do with the money. It’s a well known thing of a bygone era. The PlayStation era.
We’ll collect money till it reaches 10 rupees. In some house they’ll offer 10 rupees. So we are done for the day and cancel the plan and ran to the the PlayStation shops. If it didn’t reach 10 rupees we’ll have to go to atleast 5 houses atleast and that’s tiresome. But in the end of the day we’ll have some savings too and somehow we’ll always end up in PlayStation shops.
Those Saturdays were some beautiful days to be cherished.
People express love through million ways, but I believe sharing is the ultimate way of expressing love.
why?
Because nobody is really doing that anymore. They don’t want to share their knowledge with anybody, they feel like they jumped outta nowhere and acquired knowledge.
knowledge is not God given. it’s a collection of information that we acquire from this society and we are refusing to give it back. Because we afraid that somebody other than us will know about it. We become possessive about that information getting shared and refuse to share.
But there are people who don’t hold back and share. The ultimate form of love is a rare find these days. The people who share become leaders or teachers (Not the ones we find in schools or college)
That’s how I was made with a lot of information that wasn’t hold back because of copyright or any such nonsense and rained over me from beautiful people around me. I took every little information and refused to hold back and try to share as much as possible. Because people who taught me didn’t!
That’s the reason I wanted to become a teacher in the first place. I want to share, share and share as much possible. because I believe that’s the ultimate way of expressing love to the people.
Be it anything smile, sorrow, grief, happiness, pain or knowledge.
just share.
people are all we’ve got!
“Sharing knowledge is not part of Western culture”.
