Reflections on Peace examines today’s conflicts, shares personal reflections, amplifies the voices of peacebuilders, and seeks better pathways to peace. It is also a platform for guest authors - students, experts, community members - to share their reflections and analyses.

Why?

The world is on fire. It seems that everywhere we turn there is conflict, and every time we look at the news we find something worse. It’s easy to feel hopeless.

But what we don’t hear much about are the good things that are happening. The people around the world who are working together every day to build peace and advance better solutions to conflict and insecurity. What if those were the voices we heard? What if human rights and international legal principles were actually fulfilled?

I have long worked in, created, and led organizations globally, collaborating with women and advocates around the world to advance human rights, rule of law, security, and peace. I am currently Director of the International Peace and Security Initiative at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. In Reflections on Peace I blend personal reflections, stories of global peacebuilders, and legal analysis.

Because We Must Find Better Solutions

Violence has never been the answer. True peace and security require solutions based on the rule of law, human rights, justice, and shared humanity. True peace and security require solutions that incorporate women in decision making. They require leaders who are dedicated to peace, prosperity, and human security. Leaders who will look beyond power to get to the root causes of conflict.

Reflections on Peace sheds light on these pathways to peace and allows you to be part of the peacebuilder community and the International Peace and Security Initiative. The more we stand together, the more peace is possible.
