Hello, lovely people! Welcome to Write Despite.

You’re told to find your niche. Follow a method. Build your brand. Post consistently. Grow fast. Keep grinding.

Fuck that.

Write Despite is proof that you don’t need to do any of those. That you don’t need permission, and that ‘following your gut’ is the best strategy there is.

This is a space for people who believe that good writing doesn’t require a perfect strategy – just stubborn persistence, and the willingness to show up despite doubt, fear, and the constant pressure to be faster, louder, better.

I created this space because, after years of writing in journalism and PR, I got tired of polishing content, and wanted to do something just for myself.

So, I did it. I started from an absolute zero (didn’t even have my mom as my first subscriber), and I’m proud that, without a clear strategy, without following blueprints and formulas, I’ve created space that genuinely feels good. And I’m beyond grateful that over 1000 beautiful souls decided to join me here.

And you know what? If I could do it, you can do it too! So I’m here to motivate you and tell you - you are doing great!

Now, let me tell you a bit about what you can expect from Write Despite.

My free subscribers get:

  • Weekly posts (but I don’t strictly stick to the schedule since I’m an imperfect human being) about writing life, and life in general.

  • Monthly live sessions where we write together or chat, share our struggles, wins, and whatever’s on our mind. I usually do a kind of spontaneous pep talk in these sessions as well.

  • Daily Notes with my personal observations and reminders that you can do this – despite all your struggles.

If you want to support what I’m building here (and get more from Write Despite):

My paid subscribers get:

  • Monthly “Dear Despiters” letters with my insiguts, tips, and observations on what’s actually working and what doesn’t (on Substack and beyond)

  • 50% off 1-on-1 sessions with me (Back to Your Gut - 60 min and No Niche? No Problem -90 min)

  • Access to writing challenges and the Dare to Share guided journal, plus early announcements for live sessions and everything new I create.

Whether you’ve been writing for years or you’re terrified to start, this is the space for you. No gatekeeping. No pretending. Just writers helping writers do the thing.

Welcome to Write Despite.

Who is behind Write Despite?

An average millennial who likes breakfasts, avocado toast, music, sunsets, and books.

I have been writing since I was about five years old. It all began with short stories that impressed my mom, who then showed them to my teacher. Mom says the teacher remarked that I had a writing talent. I must have taken this compliment to heart and continued writing. During junior high and high school, essays became my thing, and I was always disappointed if I didn't get an A.

After finishing high school, I had a wild idea: I needed to do my best to change the world. So, I studied journalism (along with PR, since it was a packaged deal at my university). During my studies, a career in journalism sounded wonderful. However, that perspective changed when I started working as a journalist. My editor had me write about parking problems while the world seemed to be in desperate need of change. Today, I am happy because I know I solved many parking problems with my articles.

After spending over ten years as a journalist, I felt a need for change and transitioned to PR. Part of me was thrilled and excited, but another part felt as if I were betraying journalism as a profession and the girl who aspired to change the world.

I’m currently working in PR as a member of the Marketing and PR team at a prominent Croatian cultural institution. I still write - press releases, newsletters, speeches, web and social media content. Yet, I still mourn the loss of journalism; I miss expressing myself through writing.

So, I decided to start freelancing.

And here I am.

And here you are!
