Who am I?
Welcome to Foreign Figures. My name is Miles Williams, and I’m an academic researcher and visiting assistant professor of Data for Political Research at Denison University. I study international relations and teach about how to use data to research politics. Outside of my day job, I like using data to make figures about international relations to help you understand what’s going on in the world.
More importantly, I’m a husband and dad, a wannabe metal guitarist who gets by playing lead guitar at church, and a gym rat.

What you get if you subscribe
Want informative data-driven takes on pressing issues in foreign affairs sent directly to your inbox with no ads? Of course you do! I post a new article twice a week—Mondays and Thursdays. I promise short reads, with no jargon, and always with helpful graphs. Topics include my hot-takes on recent stuff in the headlines (like what would happen if the U.S. actually did that thing a politician suggested last week?), and also more general questions about international politics (like what are the odds of World War III, or what was the point of U.S. foreign aid anyway?).
