Who is Mighty Joe Castro?

Mighty Joe Castro is an accomplished Pennsylvania based artist, musician (Mighty Joe Castro and the Gravamen) and designer. His work has been shown in galleries and art spaces across North America and Europe and have been featured in The Age of Collage: Contemporary Collage in Modern Art (Gestalten), Arkitip, The Baffler, Esquire, GQ Style, Glamour as well as on a board series for Element skateboards.

His latest music project, Mighty Joe Castro & The Gravamen have been described as sounding like Buddy Holly (if he'd had access to a stack of effects pedals and some Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds records).

Philly-based singer-songwriter Mighty Joe Castro would fit right in at the Twin Peaks roadhouse. His retro-rock stylings channel the uneasy underbelly of 1950s American life; think equal parts film noir and Chris Isaak’s “Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing....” John Vettese, WXPN’s The Key.

Pay to play?

For the generosity of the paid subscribers, I plan to go a little farther behind the curtain, sharing demos of old and new songs, behind the scenes work-in-progress shots of collages and other artwork, plus some special live performances and merch opportunities. I appreciate your support which goes directly to helping the artwork get printed, the records pressed, and gas in the van. Thank you for supporting an independent artist and musician.

Now I’m fully aware that not everyone who’d like to upgrade to the paid subscription can afford it. And believe me, I’ve been there. So if you’re in a tough spot right now, just email me. No need to “prove” anything or make your case. Just ask.

And if you’re someone who can afford a subscription and would like to pay it forward, you can do as well. To donate a subscription, click the button below.
