Assembly presents *Dog Days, Bogotá*, by award-winning Magnum photographer, Alec Soth. Rendered in his iconic style merging a documentary approach with a poetic sensibility, this project, one of his most personal to date, was made in Colombia during the adoption process of his daughter. In a book filled with letters, photos, and poems, he found a note his daughter’s birth mother wrote to her: “I hope that the hardness of the world will not hurt your sensitivity. When I think about you I hope that your life is full of beautiful things." These words became Soth’s mission statement as he set out to make his own book of the city of her birth describing the beauty found in a hard place. One of his earliest projects, it is minted here as his genesis NFT collection. Soth is one of the most celebrated American photographers and his work is in the collections of major museums worldwide including MoMA, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the LA County Museum of Art.

Polaris is a meditation on otherworldly encounters in the Circumpolar Northern landscape. At once an inward and outward exploration, the images reflect my childhood perception of the natural world: a realm of wonder, mystery, and sometimes magic.

To me, nature is the source of spiritual well-being, and making
photographs is a way to connect with that source. These images reconstruct a childhood mythology in the boreal Alaskan landscape, where I was raised. The series explores the affinities
between Iceland and the Alaskan Arctic; distant regions connected by climate, remoteness, and
seismic activity. By traversing the landscape on foot in a receptive state of mind, numinous experiences reveal themselves. Ice, weather, animals, and celestial phenomena take on significance, and our human scale in geologic time becomes clearer.

These images convey transcendent encounters, each imparting a sense of wonder in the presence of the unknown. Polaris, the North Star, functions as a metaphor for the presence I feel emanating from these places, the only constant in environments that are otherwise in constant flux.

What Came True (2002 - 2022) covers seven distinct projects spanning the first two decades of Kris Graves’ photographic career. Using a mix of conceptual and documentary practices, Graves photographs the subtleties of societal power and its impact on the built environment. He explores how capitalism and power have shaped countries -- and how that can be seen and experienced in everyday life. Graves photographs to preserve memory. One of the included projects is the second edition of Graves’ first monograph “Permanence,” while the remaining six have never been published. 
Each NFT book will come with four of the seven projects. All NFT books will include “Permanence,” while the three remaining projects will be minted at random.

Marshall Scheuttle’s Morningstar shows us a Las Vegas in which the sky and the city, both blinkered with stars, stare back at each other impassively. The space between flashes moments which loom on the edge of an impending storm, or stillness in the wake of violent transgression. Caught in the crossfire, the people in Scheuttle’s photographs are alike in one undeniable regard: each, in his and her own way, is shot through with light. For some, that’s Las Vegas’s inescapable and smothering neon. For some, that’s the ominous and ageless light of the desert. And for some it’s the light that comes with the promise of a brand new day—the crisp sunlight that appears in the east once the morningstar has faded from the sky.
