What’s an emotional mark?

I call myself an emotional mark because if something (book, movie, TV show, song, comedy special, Ted talk, etc.) wants me to cry, I’ll tell you what, I’m gonna cry.

My reviews have always been thinly veiled personal essays. More often than not, I mention the moment at which a piece brings me to tears. Now I’m ripping away the veil entirely and leaning into my sensitivity. This is a space where vulnerability is praised, openness is honored, feelings are felt, and wounds are tended. I don’t know exactly what it will look like going forward, but I imagine there will be a lot of tissues.
