Welcome to The Book Rx

I’m Kevin Hwang, MD, an internal medicine physician and author in Houston. In my day job (that sometimes bleeds into the night), I see patients, teach residents, and oversee a group of outstanding academic internists at McGovern Medical School.

The Regression Strain is my debut novel. It’s a medical thriller set on a transatlantic cruise ship where a bioengineered virus strips passengers of their impulse control. It took me seven years to write (on and off) and has won a few awards in its first year — including the Readers’ Favorite Gold Medal, IAN Book of the Year in the Thriller category, and Medical Thriller of the Year.

The Book Rx covers the ups and downs of balancing a clinical career with a writing life — new books, craft observations, reading recommendations, and the occasional dispatch from the place where medicine and fiction collide.
