The Boys

Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson bring you THE BOYS.Wee Hughie was an average guy with everything going for him. A fiancee at his side, things were perfect...at least until everything was torn away by a superhero! In this world, the superheroes are ungrateful uncaring asses. The comic follows the story of Wee Hughie as he is recruited to and later joins "The Boys", a CIA black ops team dealing with super-powered threats. The team consists of five super-powered beings made to deal with the incidents just like Hughie's. Butcher (a man whose wife was raped and killed by a superhero), Mothers Milk (a man who is forced to feed off his own mother's breast for his powers), Frenchman (a strange animal-like man with unknown origin), the Female (of the Species) (a mute but deadly assassin with no past) and of course...poor Wee Hughie. In an interview, Garth Ennis had stated the series "may last up to 72 issues" and that it "will out-Preacher PREACHER".Publishers#1-6: WildStorm (DC Imprint)#7-72: Dynamite EntertainmentSpin-OffsThe Boys had three spin-off minis, they were collected as volumes in The Boys series rather than as stand-alone stories. Batman

Followed by Batman Volume 2.The entire run of Batman still stands upon large controversies over who actually came up with some of the characters. Bob Kane supposedly came up with the idea for the hero, but it has been suggested that he only came up with a "Bird-man" and Bill Finger suggested he be a "Bat-man". Both creators, however, share credit for this character. As for the Joker, the first concept sketch was drawn by Jerry Robinson, but Kane disputed that his input was "minimal" suggesting he and Bill came up with the idea. Kane also finagled many legal aspects of Batman related print and media ensuring he received sole credit. Prior to 2016, every movie and comic read "Batman created by Bob Kane", but following a campaign by the relatives of Bill Finger, all future credits have been changed to "Batman created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger". Robinson and Finger came up with the character, Robin after "Robinhood". Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff co-created numerous bat-creations including Alfred Pennyworth, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Batwoman, Batgirl as well as Bat-Mite and Ace the Bat-Hound just to name a few. Bill Finger also co-created Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman.Ad for Batman #1One of DC's longest running books showcasing the adventures of the Dark Knight, Batman. Throughout the years, a majority of Batman's marquee storylines have happened within the pages of this book including, but not limited to the death of the second Robin, Jason Todd, and Bane breaking Batman's back, leading to Jean-Paul Valley to assume the role of Batman for a period of time in the 90s.In 2006, superstar writer Grant Morrison took over the book. Morrison wrote stories that introduced readers to Bruce's son Damian Wayne as well as putting Bruce through a series of near-fatal trials against The Black Glove and Doctor Hurt, leading up to the epic 2008 storylines of Batman RIP and Final Crisis where Bruce Wayne had apparently died at the hands of the evil god Darkseid. After Bruce's "death," and the Battle for the Cowl, Dick Grayson, the first Robin, took up the mantle of Batman, continuing to protect Gotham exactly as his mentor had. He even took in Damian as his own Robin. With the exception of two issues set prior to the events of Final Crisis, Dick Grayson has been the star of the book since issue #687.When the superhero community learned that Bruce Wayne had never actually died, and was sent back in time by Darkseid, Dick Grayson eventually knew that his time as Batman would soon end. But with Bruce's return, and formation of Batman Incorporated, Bruce deemed Dick Grayson the Batman of Gotham City, as he travelled the world, searching for more recruits for his new organization.Charles Paris has drawn the most issues of Batman thus far at 128. Denny O'Neil is a long time writer and editor at DC with 211 issues. He also contributed the location of Arkham Asylum as well as the characters Man-Bat, Ra's al Ghul and Talia al Ghul.In September 2011, DC Comics relaunched their entire line in an event known as "The New 52" which would see the premiere of fifty-two new titles, thus the long-running Batman series ended with #713 during Tony S. Daniel's run on the title. In the new line, however, Tony Daniel will continue writing in the "Batman universe" but under the character's other main title, Detective Comics. The new Batman series will be written instead by Scott Snyder (who was writing Detective Comics pre-relaunch).For Post Flashpoint volume 2, refer to Batman.Writers:Pre-CrisisBill Finger #1-13, 15, 18, 20, 22-23, 25, 28-36, 38-40, 42-45, 47-50, 52-53, 55-71, 74, 76-80, 82, 84-85, 87-90, 92-93, 95-105, 107-108, 110-116, 118-148, 150-160, 163, 167, 170, 176-177, 182, 185, 187, 193, 198, 200, 203, 208, 213, 218, 223, 228, 233, 236-237, 241-242, 254-259, 261Joseph Greene #10, 17, 21, 26, 31, 261Jack Schiff #10, 13, 15, 21, 26Edmond Hamilton #11, 38, 76-78, 83, 85-86, 88, 91, 93-95, 98-99, 101, 104, 109-112, 182, 185, 187, 193, 198, 208, 218, 228, 238, 254, 261Don Cameron #12-17, 19-21, 23-32, 36, 38, 46, 213, 239, 256-261Ruth Lyon Kauffman #16, 260Joseph Samachson #18-19, 24, 27, 31Alvin Schwartz #21-22, 25, 28, 36, 74, 83, 176, 187, 198, 255, 260Mort Weisinger #22, 257Gardner Fox #41, 165, 170-172, 174-175, 179, 181, 183-184, 186, 188-192, 194-197, 199, 201-202, 208, 234, 254-255, 257-258, 260-262William Woolfolk #45, 58, 70, 80-81, 86-87, 176David Vern Reed #56, 59, 61, 67, 70-73, 75, 78-79, 81-85, 176, 182, 185, 187, 193, 198, 203, 208, 213, 218, 223, 228, 233, 238, 254, 267, 269-285, 287-294, 296-304Walter B. The Mutants and the Monster

After last issue's battle, the X-Men are worried that the comatose Xavier might never awake. Iceman, who still considers Lorna his girlfriend, angrily notices that Havok seems to be becoming closer to her, but Cyclops stops their argument. Acting on a hunch that Xavier might know how to cure himself, Beast fetches the Professor's mind probe, which can read surface thought, but all he gets is an image of Xavier's head urging them to find the Hulk. When Jean tries a telepathic probe, she likewise receives an image of Hulk and nothing else. Deducing it is the Hulk's alter ego scientist Bruce Banner, that the Professor means, the X-Men set off to find him, leaving behind Havok to protect Xavier. When Lorna elects to stay too, an angry Iceman insists on doing likewise.Following news reports, the others find the Hulk in Las Vegas, and after a short fight, Jean telepathically subdues him, triggering his change back into Banner. The Army, led by Major Glenn Talbot arrives as the X-Men question Banner, who recalls corresponding with Xavier and building a gamma ray device to cure mental exhaustion based on their discussion. He tells them that it is at one of his secret labs, but Talbot refuses to let him leave so he can take the X-Men to it. The stress of an innocent man's life being dependant of him triggers Banner's transformation, and the Hulk bounds away, pursued by the X-Men. He stops in the desert to fight them, but their battle reveals Banner's hidden lab. Quickly retrieving the device, The X-Men leave the Hulk in peace. Racing home, they use the device to cure the ailing Professor.Note: This is the last original story of the first X-Men comic book.

The Speedster and the Spider!

At the mercy of Quicksilver's fury! After deciding to give up his life as a super villain, Quicksilver looks to join the Avengers. But when they're not at the Avengers Mansion, he believes he can get in their good graces by bringing in New York's greatest criminal....Spider-Man?!At the start of this issue, Peter Parker is thinking about how he accidentally caused J. Jonah Jameson to have a heart attack (in the previous issue). After throwing his costume in a fit of rage, Harry Osborn comes in, and Peter narrowly manages to retrieve his costume without Harry getting suspicious. After Harry goes, Peter remembers that when he fought Kingpin at Empire State University (several issues back), he took pictures, and can use them to prove his innocence.Meanwhile, Quicksilver arrives in New York, looking for the Avengers. His mind flashes back to how he, his sister (the Scarlet Witch) and Toad all were forced to work for Magneto, and that no one will believe that they were forced. However, the Scarlet Witch reminds him that the Avengers would listen, and so Quicksilver went to New York. When he arrives at Avengers Mansion though, Quicksilver is told by Jarvis that the Avengers are currently in Africa. At first Quicksilver believes that he won't have a chance to prove his righteousness, when he sees a newspaper headlined "Spider-Man Wanted!".Meanwhile, Robbie Robertson has taken over J. Jonah Jameson's duties at the Daily Bugle, since Jonah is still in hospital. Peter Parker sells Robbie the photos he took earlier, and gets more money than Jonah would ever have given him. He has also worked out a way to get rid of the ancient clay tablet which he's in possession of, and gives it to Captain George Stacy (as Spider-Man).Spider-Man is just swinging away when he is attacked by Quicksilver, who wants to capture him so that he can prove his innocence. Although Quicksilver's speed gives him an advantage, Spider-Man manages to defeat him by predicting where he will move and putting his arm out. Upon Quicksilver regaining consciousness, he decides that Spider-Man isn't as evil as the newspaper made him out to be, and leaves.
