A Seeker of Elusive Ancestors.

Have you ever heard the one about how there are only two things that are certain to us?

The first one being that we are all subject to some form of taxation and the second is that one day we WILL all die.

And if Tee is not in search of a missing ancestor or researching another life long lost to history – she will be poring over the details on a newly discovered certificate of death or trawling through the parish records in search of a burial entry.

The location of the final resting place of those from Tee’s research endeavours has always been an important task as the final piece of the ancestral jigsaw.

However, if you struggle with the thought of death – Tee’s world is probably NOT for you!

A wanderer of graveyards.

As Tee loves nothing more than a ramble through a graveyard and she has been pottering among the tombstones for as long as she can remember – join this genealogist and grave hunter as she shares the tales and triumphs of her wanderings among the dead.

The author Lailah Gifty Akita once said that โ€“ โ€œThe graveyard is an everlasting home of every manโ€ and within most of our cemeteries there is evidence of spectacular craftsmanship, awe inspiring stonework, history, sublime words of poignancy and the occasional flashes of humour ALL just waiting to be discovered!

Tee And Tombstones

From surgeons, soldiers, babes in arms, to gentlemen and glaziers with their lives rich in detail and set in stone โ€“ many of their stories have yet to be revealed.

The Vale of Graves?

Lady Byron was laid to rest at Kensal Green Cemetery London in May 1860 and despite the incorrect spelling of her first name – her simple and elegant grave can be discovered in the shadow of the enormous Dissenter’s Chapel.

From Sleuth to Solopreneur

FROM SLEUTH TO SOLOPRENEUR is the cautionary tale of a company founder and tombstone tourist wandering unquiet graveyards, and the errors and trials of sleuthing family history.

‘Meticulous Research’

โ€œโ€˜To say that I am very impressed with Teeโ€™s sleuthing into my family history would be an understatement!

Enthusiastic and friendly โ€“ her meticulous researchpassion for the craft and attention to detail is incredible.

And that she was was also able to find AND photograph an ancestral grave I had long believed to have been lost was simply amazingโ€™

‘Skilled Professional’

โ€˜As publicity and events coordinator for York Family History Society it was my good fortune to meet Tee on an open day at York cemetery.

She took time to guide me effortlessly to the unmarked grave of my lost grandfather. Her knowledge of the place is without equal.

She is a truly skilled professional โ€“ one of those key figures in York that people defer to if engaged in family history or local history research notably of the Victorian period.โ€

Parish Church of St Stephen – A One Place Study

The brilliant and inspirational author Lailah Gifty Akita once wrote that โ€œThe graveyard is the ever lasting home of every manโ€ and nestled in the shadow of the quaint St Stephenโ€™s Parish Church of Acomb in York with its decoration of Tadcaster limestone, a wealth of stained glass and the fish topped weather vane perched upon the steeple โ€“ a beautifully tranquil churchyard awaits the curious visitor.

Although a haven for the preservation of wildlife under the care of the Eco Church Team โ€“ there is also much to delight any tombstone tourist who loves nothing more that whiling an hour or so wandering around a local graveyard.

A passionate taphophile or grave hunter since her teenage years – St Stephenโ€™s Churchyard remains a favourite with Tee – not only because it is the place where her beloved grandparents now rest but also for the diverse array of tombstones and monuments erected in tribute to those long-forgotten folk for whom this fascinating place remains their everlasting home.
