Make the version history view clearer

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
When you open the version history, and pick different older versions to check in the viewer on the left, there's no clear indication whether you're looking at an older version, and which one it is.
(currently there's a bug in online that the version history is shown in edit mode, which will be fixed shortly)

Describe the solution you'd like
Perhaps on the NC sidebar the line of the currently opened version should be highlighted, and/or the document details in the top side of the sidebar should be updated (as a smaller note, the preview doesn't seem to be useful in this case).

In addition/alternatively, online could also indicate in some way that you're looking at the version history, and which time the currently viewed state is from.
@pedropintosilva, what are your thoughts on this from a UX perspective?

Fully agree on that. We might need server changes to be able to better indicate that which would also allow us to have a cleaner implementation on the richdocuments side.

The Version parameter is already passed over through the checkFileInfo response. Is that used in COOL in any way already? We pass over the timestamp of the version there, so displying the time in the user timezone should work fine already with that.

@thebearon makes sense. Maybe having improving the list would be enough (? ) some thoughts:

• Currently I couldn't figure if in the version list the current version is present or not
  • I was trying to revert back to the most recent "backup" version but nothing was changing
  • After manually checking the timestamp (it seems that yes the list displays the current version up top) so I was actually trying to go back to the version that I'm already in. I wonder if it makes sense to even display the current version as a clickable list item at all there
• The down arrow and name have hover state but when I click nothing happens (I then realize I need to specifically tap the icon on the far right
  

As a note I ended up to subconsciously (and wrongly) trying to revert documents within the Activity tab. I wonder if it would make sense in the future to either make a clear distinction between Activity and Versions would help that

(as a smaller note, the preview doesn't seem to be useful in this case).

Actually I think we are already using this we are simply not displaying it, I will look into it, maybe bring it to the community meeting

Versions and activity might diverge because activities are kept infinite (or for x days depending on the settings) while version have a different retention policy as described in https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/configuration_files/file_versioning.html where older changes will keep less savepoints than more recent ones

Would it be nice if we could leverage the Libreoffice Compare Documents function so we could actually see what is the difference between the two documents. This is something I personally heavily rely on in Wiki's.
Can be found in LO Edit > Track Changes > Compare Document, select an document to compare to the opened document.

I totally agree; this lack of marking the selected version is really problematic (especially when the number of versions is large). It would make things much clearer. Just recently, I wanted to restore the old version of a document in Nextcloud Office, and several times before restoring, I didn't know which version of the file I had selected.
