Using six I've added compatibility for both versions of Python. It passes the existing tests for 2.7 and 3.4

I have added Python 3 compatibility while retaining functionality in Python 2. Also, there were some issues with filenames that included spaces, which have been corrected (although I'm not sure if I have covered the whole range of possibilities).
