Kashmir has a rich oral tradition filled with proverbs and idioms that encapsulate centuries of wisdom. As generations shift, this linguistic heritage is at risk of fading. Kashmiri Idioms is a digital platform designed to preserve, celebrate, and teach this cultural treasure to the modern world using cutting-edge technology.

Explore a vast, searchable collection of authentic Kashmiri idioms. Each entry provides:

  • Kashmiri text (Perso-Arabic script)
  • Roman transliteration for pronunciation
  • English translation and literal meaning
  • Cultural context to understand usage

🎓 Hečhun (Learning)

A structured, gamified learning path (/hechun) taking users from the basics to fluency:

  • Alphabet Lessons: Learn the script and sounds.
  • Interactive Quizzes: Test your knowledge.
  • Progress Tracking: Earn badges and climb the leaderboard.

🤖 AI Speech Recognition

Practice your pronunciation with our integrated AI model. The system listens to you speak Kashmiri words/phrases and provides real-time feedback, making learning interactive and effective.

🏆 Gamification

  • Leaderboards: Compete with other learners (/leaderboard).
  • Streaks & XP: Stay motivated with daily goals.
  • Badges: Unlock achievements for your milestones.

🤝 Community Driven

Users can submit new idioms (/submit) to grow the archive. Submissions are verified to maintain authenticity.

  • Styling: Tailwind V4, Custom "Gold & Navy" Theme

  • AI/ML: Custom Speech-to-Text inference (Python)

🎨 Theme

The project features a premium Gold & Navy aesthetic, inspired by Kashmiri craftsmanship (Papier-mâché, wood carving), offering a visually stunning experience.

👥 The Team

Our group DYD's Spirit includes students from Kashmir University, namely Sulaiman Shabir, Tehniyah Rayaz, Furqan Malik, Farees Ahmed, and Anha Nabi as part of the Design Your Degree (DYD) program. We are passionate about merging culture with technology.
