Apple Support says: The logs show that eduVPN is trying to save some configuration data but can’t because the NetworkExtension configuration is too big, at about 2.1MB (2,186,347 bytes). The system caps this at 2MB, so it’s just over the limit.

When I checked the configuration file, com.apple.networkextension.plist, it’s indeed 2.1MB and has around 148,000 lines, including about 6,687 redundant or empty entries with lots of duplicates. Another file, preferences.plist, lists 15 eduVPN profiles (like eduVPN, eduVPN 1, eduVPN 2, and so on). The logs also mention attempts to save configs for approx 30 unique identifiers.

It looks like something’s off with how the eduVPN app is handling profiles. Instead of updating or clearing out old ones, it might be piling on duplicates, which is pushing the configuration over the OS limit.

Have you had a chance to reach out to the eduVPN developers about this? They might know why the app is behaving this way and could have a quick fix. If you haven’t, I’d recommend dropping them a note with these details.

If they can’t sort it out, I can look into whether we can safely clear some of that extra data manually, though we’d need to be careful not to mess with other settings. The files aren’t designed to be edited manually and I’d have to make some enquiries as to the best way forward.
