Question: Canonical Way of Replacing Favicon and Header Logo?

My apologies for asking this here, I hope it's not an inappropriate use of the issues section! Basically, I've tried a couple of methods of replacing the favicon and header logo for Mbin 1.9.0 on my instance (Docker install):

• replacing the favicon.ico and logo.png files in the folder mbin/public
• mounting custom files in compose.override.yaml to replace those in the Docker image

However, after doing a cache clear and a refresh of the page in both instances, the header logo and the favicon are still at the defaults. I'm sure I'm making a mistake here but I'm not entirely sure what -- has anyone else configured this who might be able to point me in the right direction?

I've never tried mounting custom files directly, but it seems like it should work.

Anyway, the way I've done it is use a custom Docker image build, and just replace the images from public that I wanted to change. You can see the results here on my server: https://kbin.earth. Let me know if you have any questions about doing that.

Thanks very much for that, it does appear that you've got the results that I'm looking for! May I ask which files in public you specifically replaced? Perhaps that's the mistake that I'm making...I have tried replacing favicon.ico and favicon.svg in the Docker image but neither seems to have taken, it's still displaying the default one even after switching browsers to make sure aggressive caching was not the issue.

It looks like these are the only files I've changed:

public/favicon.ico
public/favicon.svg
public/mbin_logo.png
public/mbin_logo.svg

I could have changed more, but these are probably the bare minimum.

Hmm...in that case I am at a loss as to why they haven't been replaced in the running Docker image, perhaps I could ask you more about creating a custom build, as I've never actually done that before...is that something that I could do with my existing install? If I could follow the same method that you did, surely that should work!

Thanks very much for that! Building your own Docker image seems simple enough...without trying to trouble you more (I appreciate all the help), may I ask how you went about customizing the files before you build the image? I'm afraid that my familiarity with Docker is very limited, though I did successfully customize php.ini in the image!

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but if you edit any of the files in the source code, and then run docker compose up -d, it will automatically rebuild with the changes you made and will update the docker containers automatically as well. It's a very automated process with barely any work needed!

Sorry for being unclear in my previous reply, it turns out that your method of building a custom image was just what I needed...I replaced the files in public/ and built the image, after that and a cache cleaning the favicon and the header logo are both changed!

My sincere appreciation for the clear and concise instructions on how to accomplish this, I may just have to join the Matrix channel after all :)

We need a better way to do this and I have it on my mind, it is just a low prio.
