Hot reload/restart not working when device is connected (linux)

If I run the example, connect to a device, change something in the source and press r/R, reload hangs forever. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I'm still new to flutter and don't know enough internals to understand where this is coming from.
This is on linux, device is connected via USB.
