Future of gittle?

I'm wondering what the future of this code is. Looks like ~1.5 years since a commit. This API is the most appealing I've seen, would be a shame to abandon it.

I and others would benefit from knowing the status and what recommended alternatives are.

FWIW Dulwich has a porcelain module these days which covers most of the functionality of gittle.
