because ur smart + a big-feeler + likely a crybaby like me who is interested in poetry and visual art, blurry genre boundaries, and firm personal boundaries. frequent crier club is more than just a substack. Learn more below (excerpt from my site):
frequent crier club, founded by Sarena Brown, began as a joke and continues as a shape-shifting disabled art-based community space. A digital watering hole for artists no matter their medium, especially disabled and sick folks, and especially crybabies.
In these spaces, we prioritize taking care of ourselves as we tend to our art practices, even if that looks like not actively making art at all. The work we do aligns with the tenants of Disability Justice and strives to move through the world with as much gentleness and ease as possible.
Sarena Brown (they/them) is the founder of frequent crier club. They are also a sick and Mad multimedia poet/visual artist who makes art to feel through gender feelings, queer belonging, and disability. In addition to earning their MFA in Poetry from UMass Amherst, Sarena is a Dreamyard fellow, a Seventh Wave Narrative Shifts Fellow, and a Sista Uprising grant recipient. They are likely crying. You can find Sarena’s work in Grist Journal, Night Coffee, ko-fi & substack.
