Got a question about our cakes, brownies or wholesale supply? Below are answers to the questions we get asked most often.

Do you supply cafés and businesses?

Yes. Supplying cafés and hospitality businesses is a big part of what we do.

Exploding Bakery started life as a small café in Exeter, so we understand what works on a busy cake counter. Our wholesale range focuses on cakes that slice well, hold their texture and pair perfectly with coffee.

Typical wholesale customers include:

• independent cafés

• coffee roasters

• farm shops

• delis

• gyms and hospitality venues

If you’re interested in stocking our cakes, just get in touch cake@explodingbakery.com and we’ll guide you through the options.

Do you have a minimum order?

Nope. If you’re ordering directly from us you can order as much or as little cake as you like.

Some distributors may set their own minimum order quantities, but that depends on the supplier. If you’re ordering through one of them, it’s best to check directly with them first.

Do you offer gluten free, dairy free or vegan cakes?

Yes, we do.

Our range includes a selection of gluten free, dairy free and vegan cakes, and many of our customers stock them alongside our classic traybakes.

Products are clearly marked so it’s easy to see which cakes suit different dietary preferences.

What allergens are used in your bakery?

The following allergens are all used on site - peanuts, nuts, sesame, flour (gluten), milk, soya.

Our Gluten Free products have been lab tested and we store allergens separately and always make sure we do a thorough clean down between the different products that we make.

Please take care if anyone who has a severe allergy to any of the allergens above and check the information on the product page for full ingredients lists. Allergen Matrix can be found here.

What ingredients do you use in your cakes?

Great cake starts with great ingredients.

We don’t use fake flavours, cheap fillers or unnecessary additives. Instead we focus on sourcing ingredients that taste fantastic and come from suppliers who care about how food is grown and produced.

That includes things like:

• single origin chocolate

• high quality flour

• free-range eggs

• carefully sourced nuts and fruits

Choosing better ingredients means better flavour, better texture and cakes that feel good to serve.

Do you make selection boxes with different flavours of brownies?

Sorry, we don't have these available at the moment. If you want to try a couple of flavours, add them in your basket and take advantage on our free shipping offer an all orders of £100 and over.

We cannot guarantee your delivery will be put through a letterbox when ordering letterbox brownies. Our letterbox brownies have been designed to fit through a standard size UK letterbox: 242mm (w) x 30mm (h), however, not all letterboxes are standardised. If you've ordered more than 1 item, the box size may change meaning it may be left at your door or delivered in more than 1 parcel. You can always add a safe delivery place when you order, you can choose to leave it with a neighbour.

Please read our T's and C's for more info.

What if I'm not in?

No problem. You can choose a safe place for your delivery driver to leave your order, then collect it when you get home. It's really easy to do this, here's how: When placing your order DPD or Royal Mail will send you a tracking link where you can add delivery instructions. Your courier will send you a delivery time window on the day so you'll know when to expect parcel brownie to arrive. Please note that our brownies and cakes have a very long shelf life and will keep fresh even if you have missed a delivery.

If you haven't left instructions and miss a delivery, DPD / Royal Mail will either automatically deliver the next day or take your item to a nearby shop where you can collect it.

How do I store my cakes?

Your cakes will be fine at ambient temperature if you intend to scoff them within two days, otherwise they will keep in the fridge for up to 5 depending on the product. Our cakes taste much better when eaten at room temperature.

Do you make brownies for corporate gifting & the workplace?

Absolutely.

Lots of businesses order brownies and cakes for team treats, client gifts or events. Whether it’s a one-off delivery or regular cake drops for the office, just get in touch and we’ll help organise it.

Drop us an email at cake@explodingbakery.com and we’ll get the ball rolling.

Do you make custom cakes to order?

We don’t make bespoke cakes or alter our recipes.

Instead we focus on baking a tight range of tried-and-tested cakes that we know work brilliantly for cafés, farm shops and cake lovers across the UK.

If you need cakes delivered to an event or venue, the best option is to order through one of our distributors. Just remember to order a day in advance to avoid delays and also so the cakes have time to thaw properly.

Why do you freeze your cakes?

Cake is surprisingly delicate.

We freeze our cakes after baking because it protects them during transport and helps make sure they arrive looking as good as when they left the bakery.

Freezing also locks in flavour and extends shelf life without affecting the structure of the cake. In fact, most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a cake that’s been frozen and one that hasn’t.

Why are your traybake cakes pre-marked?

Our cakes are scored into portions as they come out of the oven.

Because we supply a lot of cafés, farm shops and delis, pre-marking the cakes makes portioning quick and consistent. Staff can cut straight along the lines and get neat slices every time.

No guesswork. No wonky wedges.

Why is it called Exploding Bakery?

Tom comes from a long line of bakers and actually his relatives still bake in Sherborne. But many moons ago, his great granddad's bakery exploded due to a static build up from the flour particles rubbing together. Luckily we don't keep that much flour.
