Grab your passport, a cup of coffee (or maybe a glass of wine), and let’s belly-flop into adventure!
Welcome to my cozy spot on the web! I'm Emily, a wanderer at heart with a passion for uncovering the stories that make our world so wonderfully diverse. Here, I blend my love for travel, history, and culture into lighthearted narratives that I hope will inspire, teach, and entertain.
A Little About Me:
Raised under evergreen trees and the drizzle-dreamy Pacific Northwest skies, I’ve always had a deep ache to understand the natural world and express ideas through storytelling. Whether I'm wandering through ancient ruins, diving into the vibrant chaos of a local market, or sipping coffee in a quaint café, I'm on the lookout for ‘the hum.’ The hum is that feeling of connection, moments past and present that remind us of our humanity. I believe every place has a unique rhythm, molded from the grand histories of old civilizations and the quirky traditions that make a culture special. By putting words to ‘the hum,’ I hope to preserve a little piece of the world and the fascinating people who inhabit it.
What You'll Find Here:
On Rerouted Travel, you'll find a mix of everything that excites me about the world. Expect honest, first-person travel guides that go beyond the usual tourist spots, deep dives into the history that shaped the places I visit, and musings on cultural quirks that make me chuckle. All served with a side of my light-hearted humor and a dash of curiosity.
You’ll also find installments of my memoir Not Quite Adulting, which features stories from my decade-long quest to see thirty countries before I turned thirty.
Why I (share what I) Write:
I write because I have to. It’s in my DNA. But I share my writing because I believe travel is about more than seeing new places—it's about understanding them and, more so, understanding how we all fit into it. In the social media age, too often, the act of travel sits behind a glossy filter. But exploration is never blemish-free. It often involves confronting personal barriers, insecurities, and biases, as well as ugly histories and scary futures. At the same time, it doesn’t have to be doom and gloom either. I hope that by sharing my own stories, I can create a safe, lighthearted space for people to ask hard questions, explore big ideas, and feel more connected to their world. In turn, sharing allows me to feel more connected to you!
