Hi, I’m Hollie! I’m a researcher in the physics department at Heriot-Watt University.

My research interests include:

  • Ultrafast lasers, modelocked lasers, fibre lasers
  • Frequency combs,
  • Optical ranging, dual-comb ranging
  • Precision metrology
  • Metrology-driven manufacturing.

Two-Photon Dual-Comb LiDAR

During my EngD studies, I co-invented the optical ranging technique, Two-Photon Dual-Comb LiDAR. With micrometre precisions at kilohertz update rate, the technique fills a performance gap for optical metrology tools. My industry sponsors, Renishaw intend to commercialise the technique.

About me

Originally from Cumbernauld, I attended St Andrews University to study physics. After graduating in 2016, I moved to Edinburgh to study for my EngD in Applied Photonics. I graduated in 2021 but have continued my research at Heriot-Watt. My goal now is to be awarded a research fellowship so that I can start my own research group.
In my spare time, I love eating great food, visiting museums, and exploring the outdoors with my partner, Byron and our dog, Rufus.
