Hey there, messy person!

Welcome to The Messy Intersection! I'm Diana, a pediatric & adult dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor.

I'm also a mom, quasi-former journalist, gel manicure enthusiast and a total nerd for raising kids to have a healthy relationship with food.

I came to nutrition after bouncing around in women’s magazines as an editorial assistant and fact checker, skills that have actually helped me out in my current line of work far more than I initially expected.

And as my career in nutrition progressed, I realized how rare it was that I never suffered from a disordered relationship with food myself. I credit this to my inherent thin privilege (it's significantly easier to not think much about how food affects your body size when your body size is already the cultural standard) as well as my parents being far ahead of the curve in wanting their kids to not grow up with the same disordered ideas about food and bodies that they did.

Because of this, it's second nature to me to talk to my own kids about food in a positive way. And because my only two hobbies in life are DIY gel manicures and learning about raising kids to reject diet culture and have a healthy relationship with food, I've packed my brain with the best practices of feeding kids (there's only so much continuing education you can do on at-home manicures...)

This Substack is here to pass that info on to you.

I call this corner of the internet The Messy Intersection because I know how very messy and challenging it is to try to be raising our kids to have different views on food and bodies than we grew up with, all while unpacking those ideas ourselves.
