The writing I share with you all has a core theme; seeking wisdom, embracing hardship and living well.
Daily, I sit down in front of one of my typewriters and write. A quick read. Featuring wisdom and asking thought-provoking questions. Influenced by the lives of people past and present. Their success and failure. Their obstacles and their advantages. Just as important, how they got through it all. Real people that have done real things and cause real change. Thought leaders, past and present philosophers.
On Saturday’s you can expect a poem in Haiku form; a Japanese style poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five. On Sunday’s a quote that has captured me in the past week from all the reading I’ve done.
“Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.”
―Otto von Bismarck
My writing features history, books, and current events that can influence us all to be actionable and provoking thought. Designed to make us think and live better. By engaging with the material and writing about it, it certainly makes me better and I hope these writing will move you to do the same.
You’ll notice that I use a typewriter. Choosing to write slowly in a world that scrolls fast. In this digital age, I like to slow down and ensure that the words I type have a lasting impact for all who read them. Here we believe that wisdom is the most important virtue to pursue.
The typewriter has given me the ability to engage better and deeper with the thoughts I want to share. Words have weight and each letter typed is a commitment, not a draft. Through the slowness of typewriting I find clarity and meaning. The wisdom I find and consume is more intimate, meaningful and I connect with it better. Also, the connection and intimacy with you, the reader.
This blog is not to force a way of thinking on you. Instead, to share and communicate practical and real ways to handle life and what life throws at us. This is an added tool. My writing is a relationship with all the material I read, watch, hear and consume. It’s up to you to make the connections of the writing to your life. Turning these words into your own action. To build the life you want and achieve the good life.
My hope is that you walk away with something useful in these letters. As a result, I help myself by having the steady reminder of what’s important, what my principles are and how to manage the complexities of life. A way to get me back on track when I fall off. My devotion is to be a life long student, a lover of wisdom, also known as a philosopher. I write because it would be absurd of me to not share what I learn along the way.
