The Cristo Rey curriculum is designed and taught to prepare students for success in college. Throughout the admissions process, both the Academic and Admissions teams work together to evaluate candidates holistically to determine the student's alignment with the academic program and school mission.
In some cases, students who have had an IEP, 504, or other type of accommodation plan in place to support their learning in elementary and/or middle school.
We ask that families submit any/all documentation to help us understand what types of supports help each student be most successful (and whether we can provide those supports).
We believe all students are capable of learning and achieving academic growth and success. Based on this belief, a great amount of time is spent understanding the individual student and evaluating whether CRSJ has the resources to effectively serve the applicant in their journey to and through college.
When evaluating an applicant's existing Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, the Academic Counseling approach is student-focused. Our principal and counselors dive deep into the candidate's learning history through an in-depth evaluation of the IEP, which includes review of the student's ongoing progress on their learning plan, teacher progress reports, grades, letters of recommendation, and accommodations/resources provided to the student. Based on this evaluation, the Academic Team determines whether CRSJ has the appropriate resources to serve the student in a way that leads the student to academic success. Sometimes the resources at CRSJ are sufficient to properly serve the student, and other times CRSJ does not have the necessary resources to fully serve the student's needs.
The Academic team commits to viewing each student holistically while being realistic in CRSJ's ability to sufficiently support the student. CRSJ wants to see every student succeed and acknowledges that we may not always have the most resources to serve every student in the ways they need to be served to succeed.
