This is an award-winning trail running community. Trail running is fun, and this podcast is simply an extension of it.
I love how much fun trail running is. I especially love how much fun the community around trail running is! It’s inclusive and entertaining, and that’s just what this space is as well. If you’re a trail runner, fast or slow, this space is for you. And we know this, because we’ve been celebrated at the 8th annual Canadian Podcast Awards as the Outstanding Sports Series!
Mission Statement
Inform, entertain, and inclusively serve as an online extension of the trail running community.
Seriously, this newsletter and our podcasts involve all of you!
The Community Trail Running podcast started in 2021 and is an extension of the trail running community. It is always around 20 minutes. Short and digestible, and designed to make you want to learn more. It features useful and entertaining guests, and the show is inclusive, adventurous, and fun.
The Long Run started in 2024, where I work with co-host Chantelle Erickson, and we dive deeper with our guests. It’s a close-up look at some exceptional people doing exceptional things in our sport. These episodes can be anywhere from 40-60 minutes.
The Miller Minutes is where I work with coach Andrew Miller towards my yearly race goal. Episodes are less than 10 minutes and the idea is that Andrew explains to the listener what we are doing in my training and how that can apply to all runners out there with similar goals. We don’t get bogged down with all of my specifics, instead we keep it zoomed out a bit so it applies much more widely.
Crossing Lines started in 2025 and is a show that I produce for the crew behind the Crossing Lines movement. Crossing Lines is an initiative to get more people of colour on ultra starting lines, and I am honoured to help produce this show. This show highlights BIPOC trail runners and goes long. Like 2 hours long. Join hosts Matt, Meddy, Kortnee, and James, and feel like you’re just hanging with the crew.
We also host several screenings of the Trail Running Film Festival. It’s an honour for us to bring the community together through art, and we take great pride in putting the word “festival” into the Trail Running Film Festival.
I grew up in Ontario and moved west in 2009 with my wife Sheena. We’ve been in Victoria and Vancouver before buying our first home in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, in September of 2024. You can expect a healthy dose of Western Canadian coverage around here, but there is plenty of content from abroad as well.
I’ve been trail running since ‘14 and have finished a handful of ultra runs since my first in ‘19, including the ‘21 Squamish 50/50. In 2026, I’m training for Fat Dog 120. This newsletter started in 2021, we started hosting the Trail Running Film Festival in Vancouver in 2023 and in Alberta in 2024. We will grow as it makes sense and keep the community at the core.
