About August Wolf
August Wolf is an esteemed Olympic athlete and a seasoned financier with an extensive background that spans sports, finance, and politics. A champion for young athletes, August has led initiatives to fund and support sports programs. His business acumen now drives his role in commercial title insurance, promoting inclusivity within the real estate sector. Additionally, he offers his strategic advice to federal candidates in South Florida, applying his rich experience to the political field.
The Making of a Champion
Born on September 3, 1961, in Arlington, Virginia, he comes from a family rooted in military and academic tradition. His father, Walter Wolf, was a U.S. Navy Officer and an alumnus of Georgetown University from Queens, New York. At the same time, his mother, Isabel Wolf, was a food scientist educated at Trinity College. Growing up as the only son with two sisters in a family that valued discipline and learning shaped his formative years. His family’s relocation from Hawaii to Minnesota in 1968, due to his mother’s academic role and his father’s teaching career, brought new educational and cultural influences into his life.
August’s Education Journey
August’s educational journey began at St. Paul Academy in Minnesota, where he was introduced to the shot put. Under the guidance of Athletic Director Dave Montgomery, he developed a potential that would follow him through his academic and athletic career. After graduating in 1979, he attended Princeton University, where he studied at the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs and excelled cum laude. His dedication to the Princeton Track team not only helped them clinch multiple titles but also led him to set an enduring Ivy League record in the shot put.
The Road to Olympics
Following his success at Princeton, August received a DAAD scholarship to study at the University of Bonn in Germany, where he trained for the 1984 Olympic Games in Leverkusen. His remarkable performance during the U.S. Olympic Trials secured his place on the Olympic team, where he ultimately placed fourth—a commendable but challenging experience that only fueled his ambition further.
Career Shifts
Transitioning from sports to finance, August started his career on the Chicago Board of Trade floor with Kidder Peabody, later moving through significant roles in various U.S. cities. A torn pectoral muscle thwarted another Olympic trial, after which he shifted focus permanently to finance, working with top firms like Deutsche Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ. In 2017, his career took another turn when he ventured into commercial real estate, quickly making a mark as a commercial title agent at Langdon Title.
Support for Athletics and Community Involvement
Throughout his career, August has remained a steadfast supporter of athletics. His commitment is reflected in his children’s success in sports and his leadership in fundraising efforts for the Friends of Princeton Track. His founding of the U.S. Athletic Trust also highlights his ongoing support for Olympic hopefuls.
Entering the Political Arena
His foray into politics began after a successful stint in finance, driven by the influence of prominent figures like David Koch. Though his 2016 Senate run was met with internal party challenges, it did not deter him from continuing to support political candidates in South Florida, using his experience to navigate and influence political strategies.
Focus on Opportunity
In 2024, August launched Mission Opportunity, a nonprofit aimed at fostering inclusion within the real estate industry. His commitment to transparency and equal opportunity drives his work with Langdon Title, where he continues to support and develop competitive advantages for property closings and refinancing initiatives, championing excellence and opportunity for all Americans.
