Hercules is the common name for C-130 turbo propellar aircraft. 

The 109th Airlift Wing of Stratton Air National Guard Base, located at the Schenectady Airport, is home to the only fleet oflargest ski-equipped aircraft in the world able to land on snow and ice - the LC-130H, known as "Ski Birds". 

The fleet supports the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Antarctic research, ferrying much of the material, provisions, and personnel between Christchurch, New Zealand, and McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The US Air Force has flown these missions (i.e. Operation Deep Freeze) since 1956.
