  • Dolphin Therapy, 2019

    written by Katharina Burchin

We fabricated this video work over the course of a few months in the beginning of 2019. It started off with the idea of a circle. (That was the idea of a person who’s name I forgot, sorry. We decided to part ways so we never worked together. And I also didn’t steal her idea, I just reinterpreted what kind of circle I wanted to work with ;) )

Gertrud Grunow as a former teacher of body, music and colour connections, laid out her theory for us (not literally). In Linn Burchert’s book about her life and work, Verena Sepp (choreographer) and I found all the necessary tools for us to draw inspiration from. The whole sequence of 12 movements was also reinterpreted - maybe for the first time ever on tape? - by the dancers (Dominik, Verena and Lara).

Then again, this isn’t where it ends. We began in A and we ended in A. We shot one take, we didn’t cut anything. We gave ourselves to the idea of a loop.

    Haven’t Seen This Coming, 2019

    written by Katharina Burchin

For this video I liked to work within the spheres of art history and genre mixture. The film maker Frank Sander / Polypons and I decided to incorporate the theme of the “romantic” art, nature / culture and the new female wanderer (as opposed to the traditional male painter = wanderer in 19th century) into it. We shot in the Saxonian Swiss, which is also the subject of romantic paintings by e.g. C.D. Friedrich, and in between the columns of the Berliner Museumsinsel. This video serves as an hommage to the arts and culture’s heritage we are constantly surrounded by and is an inspiration to me.
