Byron Mayes (By Perfect) is a 22-year-old writer and multidisciplinary artist from Louisville, Kentucky. Their work spans poetry, essays, spoken word, and criticism, often blurring the lines between the personal and the political.
As a Black queer Southerner, By writes from their lived experience. Intimacy, race, memory, and sexuality are all at the root of their work. Beyond the page, By has organized events, performances, and community projects that connect art and activism.
