The number of keys grows rapidly so that the user has to maintain a key database and keep count of what key is used for what file. In FineCrypt for the first time we have used technology developed and patented by Crypto Systems that makes it possible to assign a unique key ID to each key and to store this ID with the file. Thus without any compromise of security there is no need to maintain a separate key database. The keys should be kept in one location and FineCrypt will automatically find the required key before decryption.
You can provide for the encryption your own encryption key, which will be used for encryption without any further transformation. Most existing encryption products perform the encryption with a key generated from the user's passphrase. A user does not even see the key that is used for encryption of confidential information. FineCrypt makes it possible to perform encryption both with the passphrase and with the key specified by user.
