Sarah Daly Music & Poetry (Metaphorest)

Hi! I'm Metaphorest (or Sarah) and I've been writing poetry and songs for as long as I can remember. Writing is my way of expressing emotions, of getting my thoughts on life and the world out of my head and making sense of them. The ultimate goal is to make art that resonates with other people, so they don't feel so alone in what they're going through, so they can feel that same catharsis I do when I write. In 2011, I put out an album which was a small selection of the 200 or so songs I'd written at the time, and I was very prolific for a few years after that. I had some pretty amazing things happen too – Sia covered one of my songs, and Channing Tatum did a duet with me! But in the last few years, I had a bit of a crisis of confidence. I wasn't motivated or inspired to make music. I thought I'm never going to be able to make a living doing this and I'm getting older, so why bother? But lately, two things have happened. For one, I feel like I'm mostly on the other side of some difficult personal stuff I've been going through, and secondly, just when I'd pretty much given up on the idea of making music, a few people came to me, out of the blue, to say how much my music meant to them, and how it had gotten them through tough times. It felt like the universe was telling me not to stop. If I can even make one person feel something, or help them in some way, then that's a good enough reason to keep going. But I don't want to do it alone! As I start to create again, I want to take you with me, to let you in on my process, because I think that'll help to motivate me to do more, and open up more, and hopefully, you'll enjoy the journey too!
