Over the past three years, navigating a challenging journey marked by a rigorous foot surgery became a defining chapter. Skiing, once a source of immense joy, seemed distant amid uncertainties surrounding my ability to carve through the snow again. However, from this adversity emerged a profound exploration of resilience, yielding insights on how to fortify oneself following setbacks. 1. Adapting to Change: Confronting the dual challenges of physical recovery and psychological hurdles demanded a strategic approach to adaptability. Acceptance of change played a pivotal role in navigating through the complexities. 2. Strategic Goal-Setting: Rather than fixating on overarching objectives, a meticulous approach to setting realistic and strategic goals facilitated incremental progress. Each achievement contributed significantly to the overall recovery process. 3. Leveraging Support Networks: Recognizing the importance of a robust support system, comprising friends, family, and professional guidance, proved indispensable. Collaborative efforts significantly augmented the resilience required during the healing journey. 4. Exercising Patience: Embracing the reality of a non-linear recovery process necessitated the cultivation of patience. Understanding that setbacks are inherent to progress fostered a measured and sustainable approach. 5. Rediscovery of Passion: Beyond physical rehabilitation, a deliberate effort to rediscover and reignite the passion for skiing played a transformative role. Reconnecting with intrinsic motivation became a catalyst for enduring resilience. Today, as I navigate the slopes once again, this journey stands as a testament to the potential for strength and growth embedded in resilience. Life’s challenges offer a profound canvas for personal development, and every fall becomes a stepping stone to ascend greater heights. 🏔️💪 #resiliencejourney #OvercomingAdversity #PersonalDevelopment

We've all been there - those challenging moments that make us question our goals, our dreams, and our ability to succeed. 🤔 But it's precisely during these tough times that our true strength and determination are put to the test. I want to share some insights on how I've managed to push through difficulties and achieve success. 1️⃣ Embrace the Growth Mindset: Instead of viewing setbacks as failures, I choose to see them as opportunities to learn and grow. Adopting a growth mindset has allowed me to see challenges as steppingstones toward improvement, ultimately leading me closer to my goals. 2️⃣ Break It Down: When facing a colossal task, it's easy to get overwhelmed. I combat this by breaking the challenge into smaller, manageable steps. This approach makes it easier to track progress and celebrate victories along the way. 3️⃣ Seek Support: No one can do it all alone, and I've learned the importance of seeking support during difficult times. Whether it's a mentor, a friend, or a professional network, having a support system can provide valuable advice, encouragement, and motivation. 4️⃣ Stay Flexible, Not Fixed: While having a clear vision is essential, it's equally vital to remain flexible in our approach. Life is unpredictable, and being open to adjusting our strategies can lead to unexpected breakthroughs. 5️⃣ Maintain a Positive Mindset: Positivity is a powerful force. During tough times, I try to focus on gratitude and the progress I've made so far. Shifting my mindset from dwelling on the negatives to appreciating the positives gives me the resilience to keep going. 6️⃣ Celebrate Small Wins: It's crucial to acknowledge and celebrate every achievement, no matter how small. These mini-celebrations act as fuel, propelling me forward and boosting my confidence. 7️⃣ Learn from Setbacks: Setbacks are inevitable, but they don't define us. Instead of dwelling on them, I take a step back, analyze what went wrong, and identify the valuable lessons they offer. This enables me to come back even stronger. 8️⃣ Remember Your "Why": Our underlying motivation can serve as a powerful anchor during challenging times. Revisiting our purpose and the reasons why we started this journey reignites our passion and reinforces our commitment to succeed. Remember, success is not a linear path. It's about embracing the ups and downs, persevering through challenges, and staying true to our aspirations. Let's continue supporting each other on this incredible journey of growth and achievement! 👉Which of these 8 resonates with you? ➡️How do you push through during difficult times to achieve success? #SuccessMindset #Perseverance #bestadvice #whatinspiresme #GrowthAndLearning #Challenges #Motivation #bestsweekever

This is a very tough time for myself, and my little family. However. The difficulty isn’t going to get the results I need. So here is a reminder, (for myself & for others) to find the strength when your heart is exhausted. “Turning Negatives into Positives: Regaining Professional & Personal Momentum 💼✨ We all face setbacks in our careers, but it's how we handle them that truly defines our success. Here are the reminders I’ll share, in hopes that we will transform negatives into positives and reignite our momentum: 1. **Acknowledge and Reflect:** Start by acknowledging the negative experiences or setbacks. Take time to reflect on what went wrong and what you've learned from it. This self-awareness is crucial for growth. 2. **Shift Perspective:** Challenge yourself to see the situation from a different angle. Instead of dwelling on the failure, focus on the opportunities that can arise from it. What skills did you develop? What new doors might open? 3. **Set Clear Goals:** Define your desired outcome. Set clear, achievable goals that align with your long-term vision. Breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps will make them less daunting. 4. **Learn and Adapt:** Use the setback as a learning experience. Analyze what you could have done differently and apply those lessons moving forward. Adaptability & coachability is key to professional growth. 5. **Positive Self-Talk:** Train your mind to focus on the positive aspects of your journey. Replace self-doubt with affirmations that reinforce your abilities and potential. 6. **Seek Support:** Reach out to mentors, colleagues, or friends for guidance and encouragement. They can offer fresh perspectives and valuable advice to help you navigate challenges. 7. **Skill Enhancement:** Invest in continuous learning. Acquiring new skills not only boosts your confidence but also makes you a more versatile and valuable asset in your field. 8. **Network and Connect:** Attend industry events, seminars, and workshops to expand your network. Building relationships can lead to unexpected opportunities, friendship and collaborations. 9. **Celebrate Progress:** Acknowledge and celebrate even the smallest victories along the way. Each step forward, no matter how small, contributes to your overall progress.☀️☀️☀️ 10. **Stay Persistent:** Regaining positive momentum takes time. Stay persistent and committed to your goals, even when faced with obstacles. Your determination will eventually pay off.🙏 Remember, setbacks are a natural part of any career journey. Embrace them as opportunities for growth and transformation. 🔥🚀 #CareerGrowth #PositiveMomentum"

Early on, I struggled to deal with career setbacks and went on downward spirals. I eventually understood that setbacks were a normal part of everyone's career and build mental models to bounce back stronger and faster. A friend of mine who was having a great career at a top tier company suffered a setback and turned into a shell of themselves. Looking at their struggles motivated me to put together a talk on "Bouncing back from career setbacks". I talk about my own career setbacks. And share a framwork for dealing with career setbacks: 1. Self-Compassion 2. Radical Acceptance 3. Isolate Learnings 4. Develop Skill Growth Plan 5. Redefine Career Goals 6. Find Balanced Life 7. Social Comparison 8. Build Accountability & Support System If you are struggling with dealing with a career setback, take a listen. If someone you know is struggling with a career setback, please share it with them. https://lnkd.in/gXi-dPQg I have a lot of gratitude for my managers and coaches who supported me through those journeys. Thank You!

We all encounter setbacks and disappointments in our lives, whether in our personal or professional journeys. It's our response to these moments that shapes our character and influences our path to success. I recently faced one of these setbacks. At the last moment, I got sick, and was unable to attend my company's onsite meetup in Chicago. While my situation in *no way* compares to the challenges many have faced in recent years, it was a significant disappointment for me. Despite this, I'd like to share some strategies that have aided me in overcoming these moments, and which I did my best to practice in real time this week! 1️⃣ Acceptance: Acknowledge the disappointment and allow yourself to feel the emotions that come with it. It's okay to be upset or frustrated. It's completely normal- and trying to push past it and force yourself into a positive mindset can have rebound effects. 2️⃣ Growth Mindset: See setbacks as opportunities for growth. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, focus on what you can learn from the experience. Every setback can be a valuable lesson. 3️⃣ Resilience: Remember that setbacks are a *part* of life, not the end of it. Develop resilience by staying committed to your goals and working your back back towards a positive attitude. 4️⃣ Seek Support: Don't be afraid to reach out to friends, mentors, or colleagues for support and advice. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can provide clarity and new solutions. I have to give a huge shoutout to my GrowthLoop colleagues here- they could not have been more supportive! 5️⃣ Reevaluate Goals: Use setbacks as a chance to reassess your goals and priorities. Are you still on the right path, or is it time to pivot? Set new goals and create a plan to achieve them. 6️⃣ Perseverance: Keep moving forward, even when it feels difficult. Remember that success often comes after overcoming obstacles. Your determination can lead to great achievements. 7️⃣ Self-Care: Take care of your physical and mental well-being. Self-care is essential during challenging times. Exercise, meditation, and spending time with loved ones can help. Remember, setbacks are not the end of your journey; they are merely detours- and so much of what feels huge *now* ends up as a blip on our radar in the long run. 💪 #Resilience #GrowthMindset #SuccessMindset

  • I am not going to sugarcoat this…LAYOFFS SUCK! Despite the rosy US economic picture, many professionals, especially at my old firm, EY, find themselves on the wrong side of the employment numbers. It's a punch to the gut, no doubt. In these paralyzing moments, it's easy to spiral into self-doubt and question your entire career. But let's push through the drama and focus on getting back on track. 💠 First things first, know your unique value. Reflect on your wins, skills, and what makes you a standout in your field. Celebrate your achievements because, guess what, they far outweigh the losses. 💠 Stop dwelling on the "whys" or the politics of the layoff. Sh*t happens. Redirect that energy towards the future. Explore new opportunities and take proactive steps toward your goals. Don't let this setback define you; your potential is limitless. 💠 Your inner critic, which is having a field day right now,  can be a real pain in the butt. Counter it with self-compassion. Treat yourself kindly. Focus on self-care and maintaining a positive outlook—your mental health matters. 💠 A layoff can be a catalyst for personal and professional growth. It might not feel like it, but it's a chance for change. Think outside the box about your next move. Pursue new interests, learn new skills, and potentially venture into something entirely different. This is your time for self-discovery and reinvention. The most important thing to remember is that a layoff doesn't define you. Your resilience, determination, and belief in yourself define you. Embrace the tremendous power of POSSIBILITY. Sure, that pink slip stings, but as Winston Churchill wisely said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.'" This setback is just a chapter, not the whole story. Let the journey toward new horizons begin. It's time to rewrite your narrative and emerge stronger than ever before.

In 2007, I was a first time manager! I finally got a manager cubicle, people reporting to me and my role was officially bonus eligible💰. This chick has gone on to achieve some amazing accomplishments since, both personally and professionally, but back then I had no idea I’d accomplish so much. If I could share 10 tips to me then, here’s what I’d share: 1. Embrace Your Authenticity: Don't dilute your essence to fit into corporate molds. Your uniqueness is your superpower. 2. Master the Pivot: Flexibility is key. Be ready to adapt, change course, and lead through uncertainty with grace and confidence. 3. Build Your Tribe: Surround yourself with a supportive network of allies and mentors who champion your success and challenge you to be your best. 4. Own Your Voice: Speak up and speak out. Your perspective is invaluable, so don't hesitate to share it with conviction and clarity. 5. Hustle Hard, Rest Harder: Success doesn't come easy, but neither does burnout. Prioritize self-care and recharge your batteries regularly. 6. Lead with Empathy: Understanding and connecting with your team on a human level builds trust and fosters a collaborative, high-performing environment. 7. Embrace Failure as Fuel: Every setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger. Don't let fear of failure hold you back—embrace it as part of the journey to success. 8. Set Boundaries and Stick to Them: Know your worth and don't settle for less. Boundaries protect your time, energy, and sanity—respect them fiercely. 9. Champion Diversity and Inclusion: Use your platform to amplify underrepresented voices and create space for everyone to thrive. Diversity isn't just a buzzword - it's a business imperative. 10. Celebrate Your Wins: Take pride in your accomplishments, big and small. You've worked hard to get where you are, so don't forget to pause, reflect, and celebrate your success along the way. I’m so glad I walked around on that day and took pictures of everyone for no reason. I was getting to know my team, many of whom are now managers and directors. I’m still connected with some of them and their success makes me proud. My work at the Career Success Academy helps me pay it forward. This lesson is one I haven’t seen in a freelance or consulting course. Yet, it’s one that has a BIG impact on your mental health, earning, and overall satisfaction with your work. Why don’t more people talk about this? Like professional athletes growth-minded freelancers and consultants must develop a capacity for rapid recovery. Combine mental toughness with a bias toward action, and you’re getting close to what I’m talking about. How long does it take you to bounce back? Creative entrepreneurship is full of disappointments, mistakes, and setbacks. You’re cruising, really picking up momentum, and then something doesn’t go your way. Perhaps many somethings in quick succession. For example, maybe a project you really needed doesn’t come through. Then, another. Then, another. The situation can bring up everything from frustration to anger to anxiety to dejection. In my experience, shoving the emotions aside doesn’t make them disappear. Instead, they later squirt out sideways and cause other problems. So, shaking it off by pretending the emotions don’t exist doesn’t work. We’ve got to deal with what we feel. We’ve got to examine the story we tell ourselves about what happened. Meanwhile, we can’t let ourselves slip into a spiral. Back in high school, when I played tennis, I botched shots—everyone does—and negative self-talk would ensure that the mistakes multiplied. Anxiety about losing the match prevented me from getting back into the flow. Anxiety would cost me the match. Whether things are going swimmingly right now or you feel like you’re up a creek with no paddles, how quickly do you recover from setbacks? Chances are, you already have a few things you do, and by formalizing that rapid recovery ritual, you’ll reduce your bounceback time, make fewer unforced errors, and win more often. For those of you who are pretty good at this, what advice would you give?

It’s funny how everyone tells you to have a plan for your career, but nobody tells you how much that plan will get derailed. Nobody's path is a straight line but the twists, turns, and unexpected curveballs have been just as crucial to my growth as the planned steps. The true measure of success lies in how we respond to the unexpected. I've learned that you can't always control what happens to you, but you can control your reaction to it. Take a deep breath, ground yourself, and tackle each situation step-by-step. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝘁: 👎 Graduating from my MBA during the worst recession I had known (2009) 👎 Joining a startup with a lot of potential just to find out we ran out of money 9 months after I joined 👎 Getting laid off twice in the span of 2 years (and being pregnant both times!) 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆: 👍 Taking the risk to move to London and then to Boston in search of better opportunities 👍 Building a network through family and friends when I first moved to Boston from Europe 👍 Trusting my instincts and grabbing on to opportunities when they presented themselves Looking back, some of my most significant career breakthroughs came from situations that initially seemed like setbacks. The universe has a way of placing us exactly where we need to be, even if we can't see it in the moment. Embracing the journey, both the highs and lows, has been a key factor in my personal and professional development. So, like I always say to my team: 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡. Your nonlinear journey is shaping you into the leader you are destined to become.
