Respect's something you earn (or lose) every single day. You can’t force it. You can’t pretend it. But you can definitely build it. Here are 8 straightforward ways to earn genuine respect at work: 1. Do what you say, on time.   ↳ Keeping small promises makes you reliable.   ↳ When you say, “I’ll send it tomorrow,” make sure it’s tomorrow. Not next week. Not “whenever.” 2. Own your mistakes without making a scene.   ↳ A simple, “I missed it. I’ll fix it,” goes a long way.   ↳ That one line can earn you more trust than a thousand excuses ever could. 3. Speak up when you have something valuable to add, not just to hear your own voice.   ↳ Excess noise can erode trust. Clear, concise contributions build it.   ↳ People remember those who make meetings more effective, not just longer. 4. Be generous with credit and stingy with blame.   ↳ If things go well, lift others up.   ↳ If things go south, take responsibility. 5. Stay calm when others are losing their heads.   ↳ In chaotic moments, people don’t seek the loudest voice.   ↳ They look for the one who remains steady. 6. Share information openly instead of hoarding it.   ↳ Want to isolate yourself? Keep knowledge to yourself.   ↳ Want to connect? Share what you know. 7. Respect everyone’s time.   ↳ Arrive early. Wrap up meetings on schedule.   ↳ Treat those 10 minutes like they matter, because they really do. 8. Protect people’s names when they’re not around.   ↳ It’s easy to go along with gossip.   ↳ It takes courage to stand up for someone who isn’t there. Respect isn’t built through grand speeches or impressive job titles. It’s cultivated quietly. Through small, everyday choices. In those moments when no one is watching. And especially when everyone is. Earn it. Safeguard it. Respect will take you further than any resume ever could. P.S. Tag a colleague who’s earned your respect, not by being the loudest, but by being the most dependable. ♻️ Repost to celebrate those who lead by example, not by ego. ➕ Follow Nathan Crockett, PhD for daily posts that encourage, educate, and inspire.

10 Smart Moves That Make Your Boss Your Ally (Without Sucking Up or Playing Politics) Most people think success comes from working harder. It doesn’t. It comes from learning how to lead upward— strategically, calmly, and without losing yourself. These are the behind-the-scenes moves that build trust, influence, and career capital. No brown-nosing. No games. Just smart alignment. 1/ Step Into Unclaimed Gaps ↳ “I noticed this keeps falling through the crackm, mind if I own it?” ↳ Influence hides in work no one wants. 2/ Mirror Their Decision Style ↳ “You prefer fast options, here are 3 you can choose from.” ↳ Align with their rhythm, not yours. 3/ Define What ‘Success’ Actually Means ↳ “Before I dive in, what would a win look like to you?” ↳ Clarity now saves chaos later. 4/ Proactively Share Updates ↳ “Here’s what’s done, what’s next, and any risks I see.” ↳ Leaders trust the ones who preempt panic. 5/ Quietly Solve Their Top Frustration ↳ “Handled that vendor issue you mentioned, no action needed on your end.” ↳ Solve what others ignore. 6/ Connect Your Work to Their Wins ↳ “This supports [X goal] from the ops review last month.” ↳ Translation = trust. 7/ Be the Calm in the Storm ↳ “Here’s the situation + 3 paths forward. Want me to recommend one?” ↳ Clarity builds confidence. 8/ Respect Their Time Relentlessly ↳ “I need 2 quick decisions from you today.” ↳ Meetings aren’t for updatest they’re for momentum. 9/ Own Mistakes + Recovery ↳ “Here’s what broke. Here’s how I fixed it.” ↳ Trust is earned in how you rebound. 10/ Ask What Makes Someone Indispensable ↳ “What makes someone a go-to for you?” ↳ Then go quietly become that person. The truth is: You don’t need to kiss up. You need to show up, strategically, consistently, and with intention. 🔁 Repost to help someone grow faster 📌 Save this before your next 1:1 🔔 Follow Gabriel Millien for career + leadership playbooks that actually work

Respect isn’t handed out with a title. It’s earned, day by day, moment by moment. You don’t have to lead like the loudest voice in the room. You have to lead in a way people feel safe, seen, and steady around you. 7 ways to actually earn respect as a leader, with practical ways to put them in motion: 1️⃣ 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 Rambling, passive-aggressive Slack messages? Directionless meetings? That’s noise, not leadership. ✅ Say less, mean more. ✅ Think in headlines. ✅ Speak only what your team needs to hear. 2️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Burned-out leaders don’t inspire They infect. ✅ Rest hard. Recharge properly. ✅ Your energy sets the emotional tone. ✅ Presence > pressure. 3️⃣ 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Respect is built when it’s hard to do the right thing. ✅ Own your missteps early. ✅ Don’t overpromise. ✅ Make calls you can defend in private. 4️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 The intern and the board member should feel the same respect from you. ✅ Learn names. Acknowledge contributions. ✅ Praise the quiet achievers, not just the loud ones. 5️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 Trust breaks when follow-through fails. ✅ If you say you’ll follow up, do it. ✅ Under-promise. Over-deliver. ✅ Make your words reliable. 6️⃣ 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗘𝗴𝗼 People follow leaders who evolve, not those who posture. ✅ Ask for feedback. ✅ Share what you're learning out loud. ✅ Lead like you’re still learning. 7️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 People don’t need you flawless. They need you predictable. ✅ Don’t lead by mood. ✅ Set standards. Stick to them. ✅ Be calm, even when things aren’t. You don’t earn respect by trying to look like a leader. You earn it by living like one. And every interaction? That’s your shot to show people they can trust you, without second-guessing. ♻️ Repost if leadership to you means earning it, not expecting it. 🔔 Follow me Armers Moncurefor real-world leadership insights that actually land.
