In the past, I've worked at a variety of organizations that encouraged and rewarded activity but didn't always prioritize impact as much as we should. Welp, we saw where that led in the era of growth at all costs... In the pursuit of success, it's crucial to recognize the difference between activity and impact. We often find ourselves engaged in countless tasks, but if they don't translate into meaningful outcomes, we risk burning out without tangible results to show for our efforts. As we navigate through the year of efficient growth, let's shift our perspective towards hyper-focused and laser-prioritized actions. It's not about doing more; it's about doing what matters most. Aligning our efforts with strategic goals and themes enables us to create not just blips but booms 💥 of impact. Remember, it's not the number of tasks we complete, but the quality and significance of those tasks that define our success. Let's cultivate a culture of purposeful productivity, where every action contributes to our overarching goals. Key Takeaways for Efficient Growth: 1️⃣ Hyper-Focus: Identify the core activities that directly align with your objectives. Concentrate your energy on these key areas to maximize impact. 2️⃣ Laser Prioritization: Prioritize tasks based on their potential impact. Not all tasks are created equal; focus on those that move the needle and contribute significantly to your goals. 3️⃣ Strategic Alignment: Ensure that every action is aligned with the broader strategy. This alignment creates a ripple effect, amplifying the impact of individual efforts. 4️⃣ Quality over Quantity: Shift the focus from the volume of tasks to the quality of outcomes. Meaningful contributions have a lasting impact and contribute to sustainable growth. I'll be a broken record this year reiterating the importance of alignment and prioritization so we can all create the impact we need to grow efficiently and be proud of our results. #growthmindset #impact #prioritization

"We're afraid our creatives will get bored and leave us." This is one comment I hear from agencies when I talk about focusing their business on just a few service areas or a market segment. I also hear... “We’re afraid of a diet of just one thing.” “We’re afraid that focus means we’ll be passing up new business; we never want to turn down business.” All normal thoughts and common first reactions. However, these reactions are based on a faulty mental map because what succeeds in business is: focus. The benefits of focus are: 1 - Having clear criteria for identifying the types of clients who want you for what you do best. 2 - A stronger win ratio in new business because you’re playing to your strengths. 3 - Clearer hiring standards for the kind of people you need to deliver on your strategy. 4 - A self-promotion program based on a meaningful, unifying theme. 5 - More pricing leverage because you’re offering differentiated services. 6 - Clearer direction for how you should spend your limited time and resources. 7 - A more efficient and effective operating model that enables you to produce better work faster and at a lower cost. The takeaway is that agencies that develop a focused business strategy find it easier to run their business and become more profitable. And the focus helps them produce better work, which also helps with recruitment, employee morale, and retention. #advertisingagency #adagency #agencyleadership #agencymanagement #agencyowners #marketingandadvertising #marketingagency #digitalagency #agency #agencies #agencygrowth

I just talked to a founder about the importance of focus & recalled this great Steve Jobs quote: "people think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. but that’s not what it means at all. it means saying no to the 100 other good ideas" 🎯 i love founders who are relentlessly focused on building the best possible product for a narrow set of users. super-serving and achieving dominant share of a small initial market > grabbing small share of a large market, imho. once you've become a dominant player in your initial target market, it becomes far easier to expand to adjacent markets on the other hand, i often meet founders who say we're focused on building X. but then you dig in and it turns out they are also building Y and Z, because these specific customers require it, or there's a great partnership opportunity, etc. the devil is that most of these other opportunities are also attractive and have sound business rationale - these features will land me more customers, expand my product use-case / TAM, etc the biggest startup constraint is time - every startup has limited cash runway & a limited window of time to launch products to find PMF. spreading yourself too thin just makes everything take longer. true focus means saying no to perfectly good opportunities - prioritizing ruthlessly because you recognize you can only do a limited # of things well
