At U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), we’re increasing funding to rural hospitals by 50% — the largest infusion in history. We can’t survive as a nation if we don’t honor our rural communities, and President Trump is bringing those communities back.

At the Cook Inlet in Alaska, I joined Kenaitze Tribal Council Vice Chair Jakob Kooly to witness the tribe’s deep commitment to traditional, subsistence foods — from fishing the Kenai River’s historic salmon run to growing fresh produce in community gardens and greenhouses. Ultra-processed foods are driving our nation’s chronic disease crisis, and their impact hits American Indian and Alaska Native communities especially hard. The Kenaitze Indian Tribe's leadership in food sovereignty shows the path forward to Make America Healthy Again.

Today I traveled to Atlanta in the wake of the heartbreaking shooting at the CDC’s Roybal Campus that took the life of DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose. President Trump and the entire administration are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We stand with Officer Rose’s wife, his two young children, and their baby on the way. At CDC headquarters, I walked through the damage—shattered windows, broken doors, and a guard booth riddled with bullets. Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill and CDC Director Susan Monarez joined me as the CDC security team led us across the Roybal Campus to see the impact firsthand. I also visited the DeKalb County Police Department and met with Chief Greg Padrick to express our gratitude for the bravery his department showed that day and deepest sympathies for their loss. Later, I sat privately with Officer Rose’s widow. I offered my deepest condolences and assured her that HHS will honor her husband’s heroism, sacrifice, and unwavering service to our country. We will never forget.
