As a working parent whose children are now grown, I vividly remember the push and pull of work and family responsibilities. Throughout my boys’ childhoods, there’s no denying I missed a few things. But when we reflect on those years as a family, my kids graciously tell me they never felt I was absent from what counted. Except for the time they both swear that I left them at after-school care so late that they had to stay with the head of school until I arrived. 😊 Looking back, if I could do it over again, I’d have asked them more often which moments were the most important—rather than assuming I knew. I’d pause more, check in more, and adapt as we went. Today, I’m proud to hear from my adult kids that they generally felt supported, seen, and loved.
