Secretary Kennedy traveled to Kenai last week to meet with leaders of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe for a roundtable discussion on how HHS’ Indian Health Service can help address pressing challenges in their community. He then toured the Dena’ina Wellness Center and the Tribe’s high tunnel greenhouses, hydroponics farm, and community garden. During lunch, Secretary Kennedy discussed with Tribal leaders the urgent challenges facing local fisheries, including the decline of king salmon and its impact on food security and cultural traditions. The visit concluded at the Tribe’s educational fishery facility, where he learned about efforts to restore salmon runs and engage youth in traditional practices.
