What if AI in government isn’t a machine to manage… but a garden to tend? I just finished digging into Fragile Systems: An Ecological Approach to AI in Government by my colleague Micah Gaudet, and it’s already one of the most refreshing takes I’ve read in a while. Micah doesn’t offer the usual fear-mongering or hype. He approaches artificial intelligence through the lens of ecology, reminding us that the systems we build, and break, are fragile, living ecosystems. If we’re going to implement AI in the public sector, we’d better start treating them that way. With 23+ years in local government, across four regions, six cities. I’ve seen firsthand how new tech gets tossed into old structures without nurturing the people, process, or purpose behind it. Micah gets it. He brings heart to a space that too often forgets the human element. A few truths from the book: 🌱 Just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s sustainable. 🏛️ Government isn’t a machine. It’s a living system. 🧠 Humility should precede any implementation, especially when the tech learns faster than we do. The parallels to my own Lead With Love framework were striking. Love and leadership in an automated age? That’s not soft. That’s survival. Micah, you’ve written something courageous and timely. If you work in government, tech, ethics, or the space between, Fragile Systems deserves a spot on your book shelf. Let’s build tech that doesn’t just scale… but sustains. Great job Micah. 👏 My #motivation is to partner with you 🤜🏼🤛🏽 Let’s connect, collaborate and foster #relationship building, especially related to #EmotionalIntelligence I focus on #leadership in local #government with compassion and empathy at the core of my servant heart💜 Click my profile 🔔 and check out my hashtag #cscottandrews #LeadWithLove Work for the cause, not the applause. 👏 -Scott @cscottandrews Dr. Scott Andrews

The garden metaphor really clicks - we keep trying to install AI like software when we should be cultivating it like ecosystems that need time to grow roots.

Dr. Scott Andrews, thanks for the quick preview of Micah Gaudet's book. I'm sure it will be a good resource. IMHO, learning about the implications of AI in local government is challenging. It's kind of like trying to drink from a fire hose.
