What if AI in government isn’t a machine to manage… but a garden to tend? I just finished digging into Fragile Systems: An Ecological Approach to AI in Government by my colleague Micah Gaudet, and it’s already one of the most refreshing takes I’ve read in a while. Micah doesn’t offer the usual fear-mongering or hype. He approaches artificial intelligence through the lens of ecology, reminding us that the systems we build, and break, are fragile, living ecosystems. If we’re going to implement AI in the public sector, we’d better start treating them that way. With 23+ years in local government, across four regions, six cities. I’ve seen firsthand how new tech gets tossed into old structures without nurturing the people, process, or purpose behind it. Micah gets it. He brings heart to a space that too often forgets the human element. A few truths from the book: 🌱 Just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s sustainable. 🏛️ Government isn’t a machine.
