- You know that all too familiar scene: someone tries to pronounce your name and they say it incorrectly. Kind of awkward, right? Getting a person's name right is a common courtesy. Having people correctly pronounce your name can make a great first impression and help create a more inclusive work environment. That's why LinkedIn launched the name pronunciation feature. This lets you create a recording of how your name is pronounced and add it right to your profile. Once it's added, people can simply click the recording on your profile to hear your name pronounced just right. It's important to note that this feature can't be added on LinkedIn's desktop app. The name pronunciation recording can only be added from LinkedIn's mobile phone app. Let's see how it's done. Here we are in Jahayra's profile on her LinkedIn mobile app. She'll tap the pencil in the top right of her profile. Then she'll click the + Add Name Pronunciation. A pop-up will appear, prompting her to record her name. Keep in mind, she can adjust the visibility to determine who can listen to her name pronunciation. For example, first-degree connections only or all LinkedIn members. In this case, Jahayra will select all LinkedIn members. Don't forget, she can also click into the audio recording guidelines for additional tips. Jahayra will hold the speaker to record and simply say her name. - [Jahayra] Jahayra Valerija. - [Instructor] Then she'll click Apply. Now, anyone who visits her profile can click the speaker to hear how to pronounce Jahayra's name. Here are a few quick tips for recording your name. Update it on your mobile. Unfortunately, the desktop doesn't have this feature. Keep it short and sweet. Aim for 10 seconds and avoid any background noise. Take it slow and be clear. Pronounce each syllable with care. Hold your phone about four inches from your mouth for the best sound quality. And while you're at it, you can also check out other members' name pronunciations by visiting their profiles and tapping the speaker icon next to their name. Your name is a key part of your identity. Make it easy for others to get it right and help create a more welcoming space for all.
