Compress project timelines
- Sometimes we need to speed up a project by compressing the timeline. So here are three steps that you can take to find ways to finish sooner. First, check to see whether all the tasks in the project plan are really necessary. Obviously removing tasks is an easy way to speed things up. Next, see whether the activity durations are still correct. Maybe you can finish some things more quickly by making them a higher priority or by adding additional resources. And third, look for activities that can run in parallel. Let me explain that. The first draft of a project plan usually says we'll do A, then we'll do B, and next we'll do C. In project management terms, these are called finish-to-start dependencies. In more general terms, we'd say these activities are serial or that they're running in a series.
