- Change is all around us. From technology to the economy, to new competitors, and disruptive products, it's constant. The challenge is that human beings are neurologically hardwired to resist change. Change is uncertain, and according to our brains, potentially dangerous. As an informal leader, you can be a pivotal force in helping others be flexible and embrace uncertainties. As humans, we subconsciously mirror the emotions of the people around us. And if you're someone with credibility and expertise inside your organization, people will be looking to you for cues. Finding positives and talking openly about them can help your team work through a change. They're processing information about your tone and facial expressions without even realizing it. So, smile and be authentic, but don't ignore challenges. Refusing to acknowledge challenges only makes them more pronounced. And ignoring challenges erodes trust.
