- [Narrator] I always say that we live in a deep and wonderful world of type. In fact, we live in a golden age of type, and it continues to evolve as new designers enter the field and type libraries grow and shift. Type is now designed, marketed, and distributed globally. There are hundreds of thousands of typefaces available digitally. So how do you begin your search for type? You need to know the players. They range from companies that have hundreds of thousands of typefaces to small foundries that only have a few. Monotype is the oldest and largest type company in the world dating back to 1885. Their website, myfonts.com, has over 300,000 typefaces. Myfonts.com offers multiple ways to narrow your search using keywords. Monotype owns some of the most important classic typefaces, and it also offers a wealth of others through acquisitions such as the esteemed library of Hoefler Typography.
