First impressions really matter. A warm greeting sets the tone for the entire experience. When a guest enters your restaurant, you only get a few seconds to make them feel welcome. In food service, the way you greet a guest isn't just a formality, it's the start of their whole experience. So how do you make it count? First, make eye contact and welcome them in a warm way. Your first words shouldn't be, What can I get started for you? They should be a sincere, hey there, welcome in. Or, it's nice to see you again, when you recognize a regular. And if you're already with another customer or juggling some task, you can still connect with the new customer, smile with your eyes, wave or say, I'll be right with you. A little signal like that tells them they matter, even if you can't help them in that exact moment. When welcoming someone into your restaurant, it's really important to read them.
