In restaurants, good communication with your team is what keeps service flowing smoothly. Communication prevents mix ups and wasted time that can really throw off the rhythm of a shift. So what can you do to strengthen your communication with your team? First up, remember that you're speaking with your team. These aren't your enemies. They're the people that are going to help you. So speak with kindness. Next, be clear. When you speak, be specific and direct. If you're calling out an order, for example, be specific about what you need. Two chicken sandwiches. One to go. One for dine-in. Not, I need two sandwiches. You'll also have a stronger communication if you're aware of your body language when you're communicating. Make eye contact and stand with your body toward the person you're speaking to. How you position your body shows if you're really listening, or if you're distracted and completely tuned out.
